Waiting To Call The Vet...

Thank you Helen, we have a small boots pharmacy, I will go there tomorrow morning. She is nibbling on food currently and showing very slight signs of improvement which may be the diuretic?

Fingers crossed for you and your poorly fur baby. I know how hard it is. You sound like you're doing great.

Healing vibes sent your way.

It is pneumonia :-( he does not think she will last the night. He has injected her with frusemide (not sure why he had to inject her) he Wanted to X-ray but only does them under anaesthetic so we agreed it was not sensible. He listened to her chest and you cannot hear her heart well on one side which has changed from this morning. I have her booked with my vet tomorrow afternoon if she lasts. Ray of hope is that we came home and she is eating dandelion which she did not want earlier.

Please send loads of healing vibes, I am so desperately worried. She is such is the sweetest and friendliest of my herd. She is very much a mummies girl and I could not bear to lose her.
OMG exactly the same as Toffee pig! Bless her! Healing vibes (((((())))))))

And was she ok? Cagney is trying so hard. She is clearly feeling terrible but making herself nibble at food. Less of a fight for water now as well so I am syringing her water 5-10ml every few hours. Pooping and peeing ok at the moment too amazingly.

Yes it will be, it can really work wonders.

Oh I so hope so. From what you say I need to get her to the vets tomorrow for another diuretic injection first thing? My thinking is local vet for diuretic injection then keep 3.30 appointment with guinea savvy vet to discuss antibiotic change if needed. What do you think? Local vet would laugh if mentioned a different type of antibiotic. Not confident he is prepared to think slightly differently from the norm and thinks I am an interfering busy body !

No, Toffee had to be PTS. But, he had given up totally, he was only a baby, had no reserve. Any sign of improvement is hope, eating is a good sign.....

I think that sounds a good plan. Your vet may want her to stay on the Septrin for the course anyway before considering another antibiotic.

My vets used to be like that but I managed to train them (joking) and they now do conscious xrays, injections rather than spot on and prescribe Zthromax if needed. They also automatically treat with diuretics when needed.

Oh poor poor boy, that's so sad. Rip little fella. X

She is fighting it you can tell. She was pretty fit and healthy, so strong, so hopefully that will help her. She is nearly four so has age and strength on her side, as opposed to poor toffee. I think it will be a long night though and I still think it's very much 50/50. Thank goodness I have this week off.

You have them well trained! I was hoping I could work with this other vet but he is fixed in his ways and confessed he was not a guinea expert and if that's what was needed I needed to go back to my other vet. At least he is honest and happy to help in an emergency.

Toffee pig was 13 weeks. He deteriorated in 8 hours, fine in the morning, deaths door at 5pm. The vet gave him oxygen therapy, but he was far too gone..... Treacle his brother is fine. He came from a rescue, he had not had the best start in life.

Poor little man. At least he knew you loved him. Pleased Treacle is well.

It's just amazing how fast they deteriorate isn't it. I have had heart pigs, bladder pigs, and all sorts in between but this has really shocked me.

When my Rosie had pneumonia it killed her in less than 12 hours, it really does strike quickly. Just remembered Beanbag too, took him in less than 24 hours.

Your girl has every chance though now she has had diuretic.

Happy to help, have learnt the hard way over the years.

I was just saying to my husband. Without this forum and particularly you Helen, I would not have pursued the diuretic and she maybe dead now. We have a long long way to go and she still may not make it but you have helped me give her a fighting chance . Thank you x
Sending a huge hug your way, only people on here truly understand this worry.
Helen is fantastic she has been great support to me too :)

:(Sorry to hear she isn't well, but it sounds promising she is picking up! Sending lots of healing vibes :) xx

Sending get well wheeks from Buddy and Diesel, and I've got my fingers and toes crossed for her, and for you, as well as healing vibes. x

Hope everything is ok. My pig also got sick Sunday/bank holiday Monday, so typical. Had to call the emergency vet but sadly she didn't make it. Good luck

Well a few hours ago she was doing great. Almost my old girl back. Diuretic must be wearing off though as she's now back to breathing badly and not eating.

Is this to be expected? Is the fluid down to the infection? Worried.
