Waiting To Call The Vet...

Hee hee, yes she is thoroughly spoilt! She is learning the sound of the fridge opening now... It's the beginning of the end of our peace and quiet! She has put on more weight (put on 20g over the weekend). Plan is to get her meds right and divide the cage up this weekend when I am around all day, and put her in with her sister. She needs her own company now but I think we will miss each other! Still so nervous it may go wrong again but living each day as it comes.

Hi

Another update, having spent all night trashing her house, beating up her Hammocky Hamock pillow and killing her paper bag..she is clearly feeling better :yahoo:I found her on top of her house today asleep too which means she jumped up!

She has been to the vet and whilst still puffy and has an elevated respiration rate, her heart sounds good. She is still a little more sleepy than I would like but we are going to keep a close eye on her.

We are going to play around with the Frusol dose as she is pretty maxed out now on Fortekor. We are going to split the Fortekor into two (quarter morning and a quarter evening). She is going back in two weeks for another check up and an X-ray. She can also now go out in the shed (its heated) but I will do this over the weekend as I need to divide up the C&C and put her with her sister and that will need close supervision as I think it may be eventful. Today she (she is in a tiny C&C in the shed during the day now) she was focussed on trying to beat up her other sister through the bars

So a very positive outcome...so far! The vet is not my usual one but is guinea savvy and I spoke to her as an emergency vet when it all started. She was astounded she had made it through and so pleased to see her. She commented on how rare it was that they pull through when they are so sick so I am very proud of my girl. She has such a fighting spirit!

So all in all a great outcome and I think...just maybe....we may be nearly there!

That's a really good update, am thrilled to bits. What does that make her Fortekor dose now? did you find out the mg of the tablet? I just Googled and it seems you can get them in 2.5mg tablets (my Nelio is 5mg tablets) and so it looks like she is on a total of 1.25mg a day which is in line with Sophie, Millie and Fuzzy. There is scope to go higher if so but your vet would need to agree to that.

Hi Helen

Yes, its 2.5mg. I looked up one of my other heart guineas from a few years ago and she too was on half a tablet a day so it does seem to be in line. When my usual vet is back in two weeks I will suggest the other heart med you mentioned too (depending on how she is). We kind of agreed that quality of life was better than length so if we shorten her life slightly through meds but she is happy then I am OK with that. Although three of my heart guineas went on for a long time with this combination (as with you) so hoping she will be fine.

That's my philosophy too.

Yes mine are all doing well on their heart meds, Fuzzy in particular is a little miracle.

Oh bless her. Love her name! Sometimes you get ones who just have that fight in them. Thelma was the same, she had more ops, illnesses and ongoing issues than anything I have ever seen. She just kept on going on until she was 7. Heart issues, two bladder ops, incontinance, breathing issues all sorts but she just had a love of life (and food) which kept her going. They are all miracle piggies xx

She sounds amazing.

Reading through this thread from the start has been amazing. Your little Cagney is one hell of a fighter and you Guinea Slave are an example of what a pet owner should be, I am so happy that your vet did not give up on the wee one too. Altogether an awesome threesome!

Thank you jenny that's so really lovely of you to say that. I do know that's it's the same that anyone else would have done on this forum though :luv: And you guys, the vet, my mum and Cagney is what makes it a successful story. xx

Hiya how's your lovely lady doing? X

Hi

She's dong very well thank you! Back in the shed (its heated) with the others now, but sectioned off. Eating normally and up to 960g now (she has put on over 100g in 2 weeks!)

I had tried to reintroduce her to one of her original herd. I knew she would not get on with the boy but hoped I could put her sister with her...WRONG! They fought (and I mean proper rolling around on the floor..teeth claws the lot) so I had to practically pull them apart and she got a bloody nose. Lots of crying from them, clearly NOT going to work!

Sadly she won't accept any of her old herd anymore which is very sad. She is next to them and seems fine but she is lonely. She is putting on weight and much stronger. No more 'deep sleep' and her breathing, whilst still a little on the rapid side, is almost normal. I am taking her to Anne's at Wheek and Squeak ( asap as the longer I leave it the worse she will be) to see if we can bond her with another female, maybe a baby. if not then she will inevitably be a mummy's girl for the rest of her life! (maybe thats her plan!). Trouble is I just don't think its right to be on her own so this is the last attempt to try to help her. If this does not work then she will be a lone pig which is very sad as I do think she wants a friend.

All in all though, she has far exceeded my expectations! I will take a photo later!
