had my piggies for about 4 weeks now , and they have never touched there water bottle, tried ... tape , filtered , rain and even evian and still they don't touch the water bottle , they wee and poe ok . there diet consists of hay muesli veg and plenty of grass which makes up most of there diet . is this something to worry about , thanks

They are probably drinking a little.. but your not noticing it. If they pee and poop ok then they are getting fluids, most will probably come from the veg.

Keep an eye on it, if your worried - you know what to do.

would they get there water from grass as they eat grass 24/7 they just love it , i have marked the bottle still nothing , and watched them for hours even to the extent of camping out , how sad am i lol , and nothing . i took them to the vets the other week as one off them has some dry skin problems , but i was not impressed with the vet as she could not pin pint the problem . maybe ill try another vet

at first my piggies wouldnt drink so maybe yours just need to get more settled in :) yes they will get water out of grass...i think and veg but since they are weeing and pooping they should be fine:)

have you tried a different water bottle, we were using the ferplast one that came with the cage and it rarely, if ever, got touched by the girls. We brought a bottle when we got Peter and he used it a lot so we switched them round and he wasn't drinking from the ferplast one either! Now they all drink more from their wilko's bottles and the ferplast one got binned

not sure off the name off bottle , tryed to different types both plastic

hmm mine were both plastic but there's no apparent reason why they would not drink from the ferplast one... was worth a try

one of my three just doesn't understand the concept of a water bottle - he has a water bowl instead and drinks from it happily. Bowls are supposed to recreate natural drinking habits and they drink more. Drinking is good as pigs that drink more are supposedly less likely to have bladder issues.

Both Fry and Nibbler have a water bowl. Whereas, Patch and Sneezy have a water bottle and they regularly finish that each day. It's one of the Mr Sippy ones which I find to be quite good. They would have had a water bowl too but Patch like to tip bowls over, so not the best plan with a water bowl!

I've only ever seen my piggly drink from her water bottle once in the whole time that I have had - her I haven't even had her year yet, in august it'll be a year. And that was only when we brought them in for the winter nights. I think that she gets most of her water from the grass and fresh veg that she gets. ( she gets a lot of grass, as they are let out into the garden - providing that someone is there, with them .. watching them )However I have seen my sisters piggly drink about 4 or 5 times out the water bottle - but shes a bit chubbier than my piggy, so she must eat the most food, because they are both the same age - and my piggy seems to go out into thier run and the garden a little bit more.- right now, I'm starving! - RANDOM --- PHEWWW!!:)):p:)):p:)):p ;)

Tried them with a bowl of water , but all they do is sit in it lol , will try them with a glass drinking bottle next , or maybe find a way of raising there water bowl off the ground to stop them sitting in it

my girls very rarely drink from the water bottle. they did when they were babies, but not anymore

I have two water bottles one glass, one plastic. Three of my four girlie guineas choose to drink from the glass bottle and they definatley drink more too. Thumbs up for glass ones, the water must taste better.:p

yep i agree, i started with the plastic one that came with the cage and then changed to a glass one cos someone recommended it and they drink soooo much more from it.

Mine seem to prefer a water bowl. That's what they were using when I bought them as babies, but when I tried introducing the bottle, Phoebe was more willing to 'eat' it, but Poppy wasn't interested at all. As I was worried she'd be dehydrated, I reverted to the bowl again!

Do the glass ones have the little ball in the end that makes a noise when licked?

Yes and a little duck so you can see the water level :(|) I use these too for my gang.
Unwillingly and against my principles, sent OH to P@H yesterday :red as he had seen them in there ages ago, normally buy my items off the internet suppliers but this was an emergency. £5.99 whereas on ebay, I paid £4.49 but with p+p was £6+ so panned out a bit cheaper. Really nice bottles and they apparently assist in reducing the risk of bladder problems but don't know how true that is.

Hmmm, they look and sound good - am tempted to try it again, but not at all sure I'll have any more success :))

I have never had any problems with my guinea pigs drinking from water bottles. They go through two bottles a day between the two of them. I would be worried if they didn't drink because they really need the water.

When I adopted my last girl, the owner said that she put water in the vegetables and I thought, "Oh, she must mean as well as in addition to the water bottle", but when we got Pearl home we freaked out for the first 24 hours because she didn't go anywhere near the water bottle. This had never happened before with any of our rescues. I tried putting a bowl in, but she still didn't drink and tipped it over. So, we took her out and syringed a few mls just to make sure she was being hydrated. The next day--same thing, she didn't drink, so we allowed her some time to get used to her new surrounding but we eventually got worried enough to take her out, hold her and put the spout towards her mouth and squeeze the bottle. After that she wouldn't stop drinking and she is a water addict!

She started this new thing where she has to have her water bottle right next to her pellet bowl in the morning and throws a fit if there aren't two bottles full each side of the bowl. My other pig, Ivy, started doing the same thing and they insist on have water right next to them with breakfast every morning. :(|)

i have 2 piggles that hardly drink water.... and i have others that get through 2 bottles full a day... :)
as long as they are having high water content food e.g. cucumber etc...
i wouldnt worrie unless there is a sudden change in there wee...poo... or anything else... :)
have you tryed a water bowl...?
cleo would only drink out of a bowl... although i've found some piggies end up knocking it everywhere.... haha... :)

I would be really worried about bladder stones and cystitis if my pigs didn't drink. All the guinea pig experts I have spoken to have said that they need to drink a minimum of something like 10 mls a day and 50 mls if they have had a history of bladder stones.

I actually buy my girls bottled water because the water in my area is very hard and full of minerals.

My two guinea pigs are like this aswell, I'm actually starting to worry about it!
What veg would give them lots of water!? Cumumber!?
They are weeing and pooing okay, actually they dont stop weeing lol

My pig took quite awhile to drink too. I was worried as well. When he was at the pet store he would drink from a bowl. So I started out using a bowl. And still he would not drink. Then i switched him to the bottle (glass ). Seemed to take him ages to drink. I think he had to get used to us. Now he wont STOP drinking. I have to change his cage everyday! LOL.

just an update , tried the glass bottle with the little ducky in and still no joy , so this weekend have been trying putting the water bottle to there mouths , which they have had a little go , i think this is going to be slow process , but I'm giving them treat off parsley if they have a go at the bottle , ill keep you posted to see if this method works as i said this may take some time .

Need some advice!

I tried my girls on these Living World glass bottles with the ducks in them. The girls are happy with them but they are leaking like mad! I know someone else on this thread said that the same thing happened to them.

So, back to square one again--which other bottles are known for minimum leaking?

Thanks!
