Adult Guinea Pig
I'm not quite ready for the rainbow Bridge section yet but unfortunately my little nugget lost her battle this morning. After weeks of weight loss with no visible symptoms and many vet checks and the teeth looking fine, initially responding to antibiotics and gaining 100g to just loose it back plus more yesterday she stopped eating and the syringe food was around her mouth drooling out constantly. We took her to the vets where they could see some spurs and ulceration so she had a dental. Unfortunately she deterioted overnight and could not swallow or lift her head by this morning. I knew she was dying and her companions had already started their dominance dispute. We rushed her to the emergency vets where they confirmed there were no gut sounds and her temperature was low so we let her go to spare her the last stages of a natural death. Nugget was my first ever pet and it feels like the end of an era. The flags are flying at half mass today for her
her remaining 2 companions are very quiet and seem to be trying to decide who out of 2 submissive piggies is going to run things in nuggets absence. We were able to bring her body back for her companions to see and once my usual vets reopen I will try to arrange cremation so we can have her ashes back in the same style box as the others.
she was always my lead piggy who thrived running a herd and welcomed every piggy she was ever asked to bond with into her group. I honestly don't know what us humans or her companions will do without her
