In my Guinea Pig's shed mainly! LOL
Hi,

as some of you might know, I have 3 pigs, a long-haired coronet who's 6 months, a abbysinian cross who's 5 months, and a short-haired cream who's 4 months.

My long-haired coronet seems to be skinnier than my 5 month old, and looks around the same weight as my 4 month old.

Here is the 6 month old..

And the 5 month old...

(she does look a bit fatter then usual on this, she's sorta' perching on the floor.)

I'll be weighing them today, so I'll post the weights.
Also, I've heard 800grams is the average for a 6 month old, 775grams for a 5 month old, and 725grams for a 4 month old, is this correct?
If my 6 month old weighed less than 800grams (or the correct weight), how much below was okay, before I need to start getting worried?

Oh, and what are the possible dieses/problems of piggy weight loss, if she is loosing weight?

Thanks guys, as you can tell, I'm a little bit paranoid about things like this. :{

Your piggies dont look underweight. Dont panic too much about actual weight. They are still growing, so as long as they are not boney i wouldnt panic. So long as they are not loosing weight. Just weigh them weekly i woudl say. Ive got a list somewhere on my computer that i did when i weighed all my girls from a very young age. But i wouldnt obsess too much about exact weights, all piggies tend to be different shapes and sizes.

Please don't worry if your piggies are not right on the chart -the full adult weight can vary between 800g -1800g, average is about 900g-1400g. Such a difference means that weight charts are frankly pretty useless!

Weigh your piggies weekly - it's a good way to keep an eye on their health. The growth rate will slow down somewhat from 6 months onwards, but piggies can keep on growing until they are 12-15 months old. Again, there is a wide variety. Like with humans, you get the dainty slim ones and the chunky big ones and anything in between! Only worry when a piggy is losing weight!

I suspect that your coronet will always be one of the daintier piggies. Nothing wrong with that! I have a coronet that is just under a kilo herself and as dainty looking like yours - and perfectly happy and healthy! Not every piggy is destined to grow into a huge chunky pig.

Yeah, I'm going to start weighing them when I get some scales that aren't dead and beep every 2 minutes; I have a feeling that may scare them. ;)

Thanks for the info. :)

your piggies are lovely

I always weigh my piggies 1st of every month and keep a chart - that way i can see if my piggy has lost weight

Yeah, I'm starting to weigh mine weekly now - after being a bit nervous about Tallulah's weight I thought it would be best. Turns out my little cream is the lightest, and she is actually 500 grams heavier than her! Haha. :))

Hi,
If your pig is healthy and of average height then your pig should be weighed 1100g.
This is the right weight of guinea pig.
Thanks
