hi my guinea is alone he is a male and we have had him for 1 year . he teeth chatters at us a lot and runs away when we try to pick him up. he also runs and hides if were near his cage and freezes. what should we do ?

Jaycey we want to keep him he did not get on with his friend as they were fighting quite a lot we just don't know what to do

If his friends was a male then fighting is normal males tend to fight especially during mating

Did it seem like one of them had health issues, behavior issues, and/or bad reactions towards humans other than running away when you try to pick him up or other things along those lines?

yes both of them ran away the one we keept sill runs away from us the one we have right now will bite us if we put are fingers near his mouth but wont bite us if we don't do that the one we had who we no longer have did have bad reactions towards the one we have kept

ok.Are you in the uk? If recommend looking at the rescue locator to find your boy a compatible friend, that would help somewhat with taming him if he’s got a friend. Also have you looked at the thread on biting?
no not yet I am in the uk what other options are there we will get anther pig but I just want to know if there is other ways

Have a read through the threads I just linked, that will be your 1st step.If you click on the rescue locator and type in your location it will tell you the nearest ones to you.

thank you very much but is there other options than buying anther one
You’re welcome, unfortunately he won’t ever be happy on his own.Guinea pigs are group animals and not wired to be on their own.Even I didn’t know that when I 1st had guinea pigs.A lot of the rescues that this forum recommends do something called boar dating where they will try your pig with a few different pigs until he chooses one that he likes and wants to live with.

thank you

would u recommend a female or male ?

Unless your boy is neutered you need another male otherwise you will have babies. As @Gem789 said try boar dating at a rescue.

Yes it could be.At the moment he’s very frightened and you’re a big scary predator to him, that’s why he’s biting. If he had a friend he would be less frightened.
Thank you very much anything I should luck out for when getting another pig

If you do contact a rescue listed on this forum, if they do boar dating which a lot of them do then they will only let you take a new pig home once acceptance has happened and that way all you’d have to do is make sure the cage is disinfected and doesn’t smell of any pig for when you put them both in x

@lildog5 If you find a good rescue they may be able to bond the pigs for you. At the least you should be able to return a pig if they aren't getting on.
