I'v only had my piggies for a week but today after doing the same routine every day Roxy the Brave knew once I took the houses out that it was floortime and she went and got in her bed to be taken out.
Now this might just be an accident, I dont know and only time will tell.

I have read that some know their names and come when called etc so what do your piggies do that you think is fab or is there anything you have been able to teach them?

aaw this is a nice topic.

dave jumps on the couch, is very much like a human. i think he thinks hes a dog or a person.

craig talks to me, if i talk to him he talks back (a beautiful little cooeing noise he makes)

couldnt ask for a better set of pigs i dont think, apart from them falling out x

I love how Pixel is like a Ninja-Pig when she goes up or down the ramp in the hutch. The other girls clatter up and down like a herd of elephants but Pixel steps ever so gently and carefully so you can hardly hear her coming. She is also the only one to hold down food with her little foot whilst she eats (carrots/big leaves etc.)

I love how all of them now know the sound of grass being ripped from the lawn and shout expecantly. The same when I get their run out of the shed

I love how Boris joins in with the shouting already and how he does mad laps of his hutch

You've set me off now! :))

Oh yeah forgot the mad laps that Roxy does. She is so funny as I am sure she headbutts the back of the cardboard house to turnaround because she is going so fast.

Great thread idea.

I love the way Gertie always waits by the kitchen door for lettuce even when I have put other food on their mat already, she has to have her romaine leaf first. I love the way Johnny comes to the front corner of their cage to get his.

I love the way Johnny is always at least 5 seconds behind Gertie in realising something is happening.

I love the way Gertie and Amelie eat from the hay rack from behind the cage.

I love the way Jessica's little cheeks move when she eats and Amelie's ears flap when she eats.

I love the way when I go in the living room in the morning they all run out from under the coffee table in a piggy train.

OH says he loves the way they find the spot where we have just cleaned the poos up and then poo there.

Don't even get me started on the hamsters.

Mine do, as soon as they hear the rip, they start wheeking their heads off.

I love how Heston is just so attentive to his people, he talks to us, and when were having a cuddle he will go right up into my face and just lick lick lick my ears or chin and then coo away. He also stands up on his back feet and points his little nose right in the air when he gets his veg, he seems to think e has to do a trick to get his food (hich he doesnt of course) but if i just put it straight into his bowl he wont touch it, the first bit needs to be earned lol.

I also love how my new baby Harvey, even though he's only been here for 6 days, has also learned when his 3 uncles start squeeking it's veg time and he comes and sits at the front of the hutch.

Thats brilliant haha

I love how when I bring in their food Jasper will come running out and do laps and wheek loads, but Monty acts like he doesn't care and walks off to eat some hay, happily chatting to himself, then when I just sit there for 5 mins holding it he comes over but keeps walking passed like he's not interested, then licks my hand to check it's not a trick before taking some :))

I love that Delilah has to root through the breakfast bowl to find the first green bean then sneaks it off to eat on her own.
I love that Minx wheeks as soon as I get off the sofa as if to say 'while you're up get me something to eat'.
I love Flumpet's little brown bum. She doesn't do anything remarkable with it but it makes me smile when she walks away.
I love it when I lay on the floor and the girls make a piggy train and walk up and down beside me.
I think everything about them is amazing. They make me melt a hundred times a day.

Great thread. :)

There's some real heartwarming stories here! :rose

What do my pigs do that I think is amazing........one thing stands out in particular.

I open the cage door to let my group of 5 out. In single file, they walk directly towards my shelves. They gather around the lower shelf, then one or two of them start biting at a small box on the shelf. One, usually Dexter, will pull it off the shelf entirely and spill the contents all over the floor, to be devoured as much as they please.

The contents of the box are flaked peas. They do this every time I let them out. :))

aww thats so cute. they are very clever little things arent they :))

I find it really funny how I say "Gilbert!" in a high pitched voice and get no reaction. But when I say "FOOOOD!" he comes bustling out. rolleyes

I love the way that the tribe knows when it's me coming down the stairs in the morning - they won't stir for other people!

And I love the way piggies care deeply about and for their friends and are looking out for them.

But my most special piggy was the aptly named Minx. She nearly caused a builder to fall from our garage roof once when he saw her and her mate Mischief bounce straight out of the flower border back onto the lawn and through the flap into their run just for the sake of me calling "cucumber"! He'd thought I'd been pulling his leg when I told him that you can doggie train piggies!
Later on, Minx would take pride in anticipating the routine and even return herself into the carrier box from her daily "walkies" in the garden whenever I called her.

PS: Minx was the one who loved nothing more than sneaking up the stairs behind my back and then go and lever the toilet brush out of its holder to have a good "read" about the human condition... rolleyes!

i love the reaction you get when you walk in the door and they are literally throwing themselves at the cage walls to get your attention whilst splitting your ears with their wheeks!

oh and the fact that when i go to the toilet for the privilege they assume i should bring food back but they don't care if anyone else needs to go!

I absolutely love these stories and I only hope mine get to be as clever :)

Guinea Towers is right outside my back kitchen door, the piggies know that if OH goes outside, he's not worth a wheek. All I have to do is put my hand out and they wheek their little heads off, they get even louder if I'm rustling bags.

The only time they've reacted to OH was when he tried to put a bag of crisps in his back pack as he was heading out to work one morning.:))

When my piggies hear food coming they wait at the cage gate which is now known as the 'feeding gate'(sounds like a zoo doesn't it!) and when they hear me coming down the stairs they sing until i give them some food.

such a hard question to answer really! i love everything about my piggies but i REALLY love xoxox)when one of them runs into the same pigloo that the other one is in and they will act as though they bumped into each other at a shop or in the street and will squeek and purr and chat for about 5 minutes whilst having their little peice of carrot or lettuce!

There's a few videos on youtube that show you have to train piggies. Basically, get something they really love and hold it, get them to follow it, then get them to follow it in a circle whilst constantly saying 'circle'. I think a lot of it depends on the tone of voice you use rather than the actual word so always say it in the same way, same pitch etc. Eventually, just show them the food and say 'circle' and hopefully they will do it themselves.

It took Frankie about a week to master it, practicing it every night with a bit of carrot. I then didn't do it for a few months and presumed he would have forgotten but he still remembers it. Shows what clever little animals they are.

Benny would sometimes stand up to get food anyway so I just started to say 'up' when he did it so he associated that sound with his action.

i love how annoying my piggies can be :p

Tiny is such a greedy gus. she's an odd looking piggle, who i affectionately nicknamed the bug eyed creepy pig :p despite being really far away from the house, and not being able to see the door, as soon as the back door opens, she wheeks like mad at me. i often feel very much like a slave.

also, under their hutch is a gap where i suspended it from the floor to keep the wood from rotting. i had intended to block this off, but the piggies love using it as extra floor space, so i left it. whenever i come out to see them, all i can see under the hutch is Allie's little triangle face, staring up at me x)

Parsley, true to her namesake, loves parsley. she also loves to tease Tiny. whenever they have any form of greens, Parsley HAS to have the piece that Tiny is nibbling, which makes for an adorable and funny scene.

I've only had Muppet and Maria for a week, but they're already special. Maria waits by the hutch door for me to lift her out whenever she hears the piggies run gate opening. and Muppet has made a hidey hole in the fleece. he watches me lift Maria out, then tentatively shuffles forwards a little bit, as if to say "take me with you. please don't leave me by myself" x) it's just so cute

My partner has called me at work to tell me what Amelie has done to poor Johnny this morning. He was asleep in the cozy cup so she went and peered in at him and squeaked so he rumbled and she ran off. She then sat on the fleece for a few seconds deliberating and then all of a sudden pounced on top of the cozy cup like a cat and then popcorned twice on top of the cozy and shot off round the room. Johnny then left the cozy cup and went in the kitten hut instead and sulked. So wish I had seen it, little minx.

How ther can recognise different footsteps on the stairs, if me or my daughter come up the stairs they start to wheek and ask for food if its my OH or son they dont bother, they know they are not going to get anything apart from the odd insult 'thrown' at them.

The fact that they recognise when food is being served at the correct time, then the shouting for dinner commences and they are so appreciating of the simplest of things, like hay they get so over joyed it's adorable. When they know I'm coming to them they will always greet me with enthusiasm, even the really shy ones.

Harry and Toffee are hilarious... they know exactly when ive opened my eyes a week at the top of their lungs until i say hello to them :)) they week when i come in the fornt door as well and when I go up the stairs. They dont do it with anyone else apart from me x)

Not mine ... but

HOLY COW!

This is amazing - but likely very unsafe.

None the less!
