Hello,
We're very new to having guinea pigs (8 days) & need help understanding something about the cage we have for them. My question is; what is the metal barrier used for that sits inside & across the cage (hopefully you can see what I mean from the attached photo)? Currently we don't have it in their cage. But is it something we might benefit from using? Search as I might I can't find anyone with guinea pigs in a cage like ours who is using this barrier. Any idea?
Thanks in advance for your time & help.

to the forum, the metal insert is a shelf/messane or steps, you will need to cover this, ive used lap pads and puppy pads to line this,as grids can cause bumble foot and get feet caught in the metal grids, ive used cat scratchers that you use on doors to cover metal steps/or long socks threaded over metal step ladder.if you do not want to use any of these items just remove, and place hidey hoses/bendy logs as shelters.good luck.
