Senior Guinea Pig
I think it's an excuse used by the person to justify their actions & think i may know who/where this "rescue" is

This rescue also saves quite a few piggies from auctions and rehomes them. Another discussion point. x

this is absolutely horrible!
Breeding and rescue DO NOT go hand in hand,
Does this person realise they could kill numerous piggies and babies by doing this?
If the did homechecks they would weed out people who breed,i know at least 6 different rescues on here and in australia and its rare that a mistake is made in the new home as the rehoming process is so strict,
I am very disgusted by this person and there so called "rescue",i dont think piggies will suffer if this person is shutdown as they are suffering in this rescues care anyway!.
I have a strong feeling i know who it is as i have had doubts about this person and rescue for a very long time,is this person a member and can we name names? they do deserve to be exposed xx
They seem to be mis-guided, has anyone discussed their breeding policy with them? Do they know they are potentially harming and adding to the numbers of piggies they are trying to rescue and rehome? What reputable rescue (of any animal) does not do home checks?
My cat is a rescue (and bless him he doesn't quite know how to handle piggies), I had home check, went to meet him and only once the foster carer was satisfied and had agreement from the rescue was I allowed to collect him.
Perhaps I am naive, but fostering for Fi in Bristol, I thought all rescues do home visits, make sure people understand what they are taking on, etc.
Sorry for the long ranty post, but I guess I have just had my eyes opened a little :0
I am horrified
An earlier post said this could mean the rescue isnt too fussy I agree
I know ferrets need to be mated for some reason but to allow any creature to have a litter is insane
venice
ferrets dont need to be mated, thats another myth, they do however need to be desexed before a certain age to prevent severe behaviour issues
they seem to do good with everything except this one thing, a big thing still though.
nutmeg - changing the subject! who is the piggy in the signature! one of the cutest piggies ever!
does anyone know who i can report this so called rescue to?
i don't know what i can do though as no-one who has confirmed and told me things is willing to speak out so it would be my word over the rescues and it could all be covered up or denied by people. :0
i think this should be about the guineas and what is happeneing isn't best for them.
if all this comes back on me the so be it...i cannot stand by and pretend i don't know.
at the very least this place should let the public know they are a rescue and breeder. even though in my book this contradicts completely. but people shouldn't be donating money and hutches etc when they don't know. these donated hutches are probably being filled with babies!
i have also heard that some of the fancier breed babies have been sold and alot of sows have not been lucky enough to survive. babies aswell.
to be honest i am really upset and completely disgusted.
i hope this rescue doesn't take rspca piggies aswell to help them.
if they find out everyone knows it will be easier for them to cover up everything. so i need to report this somewhere.
i can't sit back and do nothing. not when these poor piggies are being bred from and rehomed anywhere. :0
As far as I remember, this rescue has a very good working relationship with the RSPCA. The thing is, Joe public probably does not realize the downsides of breeding, so in their eyes, the good work done there may well outweigh the breeding. I thought that the only rescues they bred from were the young sows either brought in or born in rescue, to let them have one litter, to avoid problems later (not my words but theirs) There is a lot of general support around for this for this theory, although many on here have given good reasons why this is not actually the case. This being said, if they truly do believe this, then maybe they feel they are acting albeit in ignorance, in the best interests of those piggies.....maybe? However, if they are handed 'pedigree' pigs into rescue, breed from them and make money, that is another discussion altogether, I have no knowledge of this happening. xx
This is Harry, and he goes to his new forever home with Bob tomorrow...Yippeeeeeee for them. x
been told also that if you go there it is very obv what is going on...and i am thinking lots of people probably know but no-one wants to speak out about them. not the people to speak out against apparantly.
saying that, people have said how nice the person is and how well the rescue seems to care for them etc.... and help out alot in the area.
so everything i have heard myself and from others makes me think this person is either not the brightest and thinks they are helping....or the opposite and very clever with their wording. but they can't be both because it wouldn't make sense.
rspca also work closely with this rescue...
i am stunned. i know things go on...but i never though anyone could do this.
i am in no doubt now that they know exactly what they are doing.and it has been happening for a very long time. they know people, the council, rspca, so obv no-one cares.
or do but are too afraid to speak out.
(
I am wondering if this is a rescue I know of? If so I know some info on it too! Nutmeg I have Pm'd you!
seems lots of people in this area know! north west area!
I just want to add. I do think the person's heart is in the right place just a little misguided....
