My two female sows, are currently 25 weeks old.

I was wondering when I should move them onto adult guinea pig pellets.

At the moment they eat Oxbow essentials young guinea pig pellets.
But there is an adult version.
However, I cannot seem to find any indication of what age they should be gradually changed from the young guinea pig pellets to the adult ones.

Thanks,
Lexi and the piggies

I think the recommended age is 6 months. My two youngsters I had from 12 weeks but at different times.. but since they where both always housed with a piggy older than them when i rehoused them they always just ate adult guinea pig food and I supplemented their calcium through a slightly different veg selection to my adults. They are both now over a year old and are big girls! Iv never fed baby pellets and never had any issues with growing or weight gain so it's perfectly safe to move onto adult pellets granted they are both growing and gaining weight steadily x

Okay then.
25weeks = 5.7 months . So I will buy the adult pellets soon as (too not cause much fast change) add it in with the baby pellets and wean them off it.

Thanks for all the help

I changed my two piggies over from the oxbow young guinea pig pellets to the oxbow adult pellets at 5 months as they had finished the bag and I didn't want to waste a whole bag when they had to be switched over to adult pellets in a months time. I just gave them a little bit of parsley at dinner time to compensate for the calcium that they might have been missing in the young pellets.

I've almost finished the young pellets bag, but since they are almost 6 months it shouldn't be a problem

I don't think switching them a week or two before they are 6 months really matters to be honest.
When we added Oreo to our group she was only 12 weeks old, and the others were all over 6 months.
We had no way of ensuring that Oreo only ate the young guinea pig pellets, so she just ate what the others were eating, and although we did try to offer her a special pellets for young piggies she would always choose the adult ones.
