Got my boy out tonight and noticed this on his ear. Anyone know what it could be? Or if it is a vet visit needed?

Any help and advice would be appreciated. Thank you

How many pigs do you have living together, how long have they been together and how old are they? Ear nipping can happen in dominance and a bloody scratch can happen from being overzealous but also white flaky skin could be a sign of a fungal infection

I’ve got 2 males, they’ve been together since they were 4 weeks old, they are about 5 months old now. Is it worth taking him to the vets for the fungal infection or is there anything I can do at home?

I would be looking at a routine vets appointment if I were you - are they registered with a vet ? Some vets have routine appointments at the weekend .

It could be from a teenage scuffle but the white patches definitely need checking. You need a vet diagnosis rather than home treatment as conditions can be made worse by home treating if you aren't quite sure what it is you are treating

Looks like fight damage! Or maybe he's been scratching and caught his ear with a sharp toe nail

I think it looks like fungi to me maybe with bite marks. Please don't ever try to home treat anything. Unless the vet gives you permission. Is your vet piggy savvy, if not tap your postcode into vet locator & it will give you the nearest vet. A lot of vets have no knowledge in piggy care.
Hi & Welcome to our friendly forum.

Please don't feel like a bad pet owner at all. It does look like the other piggy has damaged the ear but it could be a nip or it could be a mis-swipe of the foot during dominance. If you have witnessed no other aggression or fighting it would suggest they are ok together. Ringworm happens to everyone at some point if it is that. Our most knowledgeable and always called upon forum member for health and illness is herself dealing with fungal issues in her piggies at the moment too. I've had piggies for 6-7 years and had an outbreak earlier this year (less than 2 weeks before I was due to go on holiday). It's one of those things, you can't prevent every illness but we can do our best to keep them healthy and treat any illnesses they get. Best of luck at the vet

They had a traumatic car journey to the vets, trying to burrow out of the box! But the vet says I have 2 very healthy and happy Guinea Pigs! Both a good weight and good skin. The problem with his ears is just dry skin he thinks, he said to try e45 cream but to come back if it doesn’t get better as he doesn’t want to try something medical just yet if they can prevent it. I feel much better and my boys were so well behaved.
Thank you everyone for your comments!
