Hi has anyone seen these white patches on a guinea pigs eye before, I have taken him to the vets and they said they are not sure what it is. I am abit worried as my frankie now has it on the other eye now Aswell can anyone help pleaseimage.jpgimage.jpg

My Quinn has this on one eye. He also has red eyes. It has never caused pain or anything I think it is just lack of pigment.

Thank you very much for your reply I was worried as I was just on his left eye at first and started off tiny on the right and seemed to spread. He doesn't seem to be in any pain with it either and the vet said its not infected or swollen this is the first time I've ever had a red eyed piggy and never seen anything like this before and I'm thinking your right right about the lack of pigment thank you for your help :)

This looks like a bit of calcium deposit. My little Pickle has a bit. If your worried though, I would get a vet to check the eye.

This may sound a bit silly but what does that mean and is it common? X

It's called osseous choristoma, it's reasonably common in Guinea pigs. It's like a boney deposit and does not cause any problems. I'm just looking for a link about it.

Thank you Very much for your help, the vets said they were unsure what it was which had me even more worried that they had never seen it before x

It's a calcium boney deposit within the eye and is sometimes associated with commercial diets. It's usually not a problem. If you wanted to then find a vet who has more experience in opthalmology. I most almost certainly have a couple of piggies with it and all of my little ones are seen by an opthalmology specialist once a year and they are never concerned by it. Have a read of these if you want...
