Dental Why? I Can't Understand.

I'm sorry I have been off the forum recently so didn;t pick up on your thread until now.

Firstly I note you are in Mexico....what information i am about to give you is for [you]MEXICO ONLY[/you]....and does not relate or apply in any way to a piggie owners in the UK.
The Laws and sourcing of meds are different.

For some reason - your piggie stopped eating properly and developed gut stasis - hence the size and shape (and lack of) poos.

At this moment in time, the first thing you need to ensure is that you keep his guts moving properly which includes ensuring enough food goes in and enough poop comes out!
a) Stop all green gaseous veg - feed hay, pellets and paper/cardboard. He clearly wants fibre to keep his guts moving hence why he is chewing your notebook. Give him newspaper
b) get food into him regularly by syringe feeding him mushed pellets and fluids....20ml every 4hrs minimum.
c) However, given what you have already described in terms of his current gut condition, he may also need gut motility meds too.
If the vets you have contacted won;t co-operate - then you need to get some zantac (ranitidine) as a normal human medication over the counter. What is his weight? and I will give you a dose range.
I'm "assuming" you won;t be able to get some cispride (but if you can get it from a vet then he needs this as well to keep his guts moving...again i can give you a dose range)

All the above will help sort out his gut - however you also need to know what started the problem off in the first place? Do you have any ideas?
You were given baytril antibiotic to combat a non-specific infection - that's no bad thing but is a classic "give this to an ill guinea pig without bothering to find out what's wrong with them". You need to think about what may have "started all of this.e.g. Did his pee smell funny, did he have noisy breathing? Any info you can give will be helpful.

I think you are doing well in taking this one step at a time and you are succeeding..however I think you need to conder how you will tackle the problem of gut motility meds.

Thank you so much. I'll leave these kind of events since the beginning:

  1. march 8th: I see he doesn't want to eat, seems interesteded but eats less than before
  2. march 9th: Normally I wake up and the first thing he does is to bite his cage, but did nothing
  3. march 10th: We go to the vet and she notices that there's nothing wrong with him (no fever, my baby's still interested in food...), but gives "Quimobac" (0.15 ml / 12 hrs) and "Plantago psyllium" (1 - 2 ml / 24 hrs). (His weight that time: 1.15 kg).
  4. march 11th - 15th: Chispita stops eating, bites a little, but that's not enough. We give him more food with the syringe and water. We read here he needs probiotics and decide to give him lactobacillus (1 ml / 24hrs).
  5. march 16th: Going back to the vet (as they say) but other guy sees Chispita. He just complains because we're giving him food with the syringe. Tell us to continue with the plantago psyllium and tell us to come back. We don't give him any plantago.
  6. march 17th: We go to another vet. He sees he's fine but pretty weird he's not eating. No fever, no infection, but notices his teeth are long... he injects penicillin and complement B. Tell us to keep giving him fibre and vegs, even some pediatric vitamins. We ignore about the veggies and keep with the pellets, lactobacillus and now pediatric vitamins.
  7. march 18th: In the morning I see he pooped more bigger and with a good brown color. The strings are still there with bubbles. We keep going with the lactobacillus and mashed pellets with water. He eats more than the other days and seems better. Doesn't eat by his own but drinks. At night I don't see any poop.
  8. march 19th (today): His eyes are more sunken and I don't see any poop, just the photos I uploaded (like orange). We go back with this vet and he injects serum because he's not hydrated and for some damn reason ampicillin. I tell him about his teeth but prefers not to do anything because his condition.
I'm sad, he's not OK. I think he's not eating because of his teeth and of the Quimobac they gave him in the first place. Maybe he's not eating now and looks sad because the penicillin and NOW the freaking ampicillin. I feel so powerless and like an idiot.

Thanks so much for reading.
