fred has only pooed six times today and his tummy keeps rumbling is this normal he is eating! i suppose he could be eating his poo's am i just being paranoid?

I'm not an expert but that sounds like hardly any poos (considering my boar did 16 in one go when he was in the kitchen last week (with many more to follow)). I would be concerned that he has stasis. Do you have another healthy guinea-pig you could get some poos from and syringe feed him a 'poop soup' made from these? Stasis is far easier to prevent than treat. Hopefully someone else will be along soon to give you more comprehensive advice.

Don't give him any fresh food, but plenty of hay and water; hopefully, it sorts itself out. Otherwise you can try and gently massage his belly a bit to see whether that helps.

If you can get hold of some probiotic or if necessary a little bit of natural yoghurt, that can help kickstart his digestion as well. Chamonile or fennel tea (cooled down) could also help soothe the intestines.

Just watch out in case he develops bloat. He will go off his food quickly and completely, will be painfully swollen and his belly will sound hollow when you tap it. In this case you need to see a vet ASAP.

he seems to have moved his corner i found some more poo about twelve, but they were all slimie! he was actin weird when he was out he wasnt just takin the veg it was like he was just move it certain way before eatin it!

Are you sure they were slimy and not just wet. Was there any mucus?

no mucus and i guess they could have been fresh and thats how i didnt see them! he does seem fine except for his tummy rumbling he is more active than normal too! he is eatin loads!

If they are covered in mucus/slime, it is usually a sign of dehydration.

Hopefully, Fred will be back to his old self again soon!

He didn't run out of food or hay at all? Sounds like a hungry guinea who has not eaten enough, but if he didn't run out of food then quite why he's acting like this is slightly confusing.

And, stating the obvious, fresh poops will look wet - much more so if he's peed on them as well! :)

No he always has plenty of food, he gets veg, pellets and unlimited hay! He had eating all his veg and had pellets and hay still in his cage! His tummy is still Rumbling this morning and he is eating everything in sight... all night there were 12 poo's which I don't think this is normal. I had him out this morning and was masaging his wee stomach which he seems to love. If it was sore or uncomfortable I don't think he would have let me! Hes also more active than normal, which is just strange he was out in his run for ages last night.

I didn't give him ay veg this morning incase he does have an upset tummy! :{

At least, he hasn't got bloat, if he likes his tummy massaged! And that he is still eating is a good sign as well - he wouldn't if he had a blockage.

Have you been weighing him lately? I would do so daily, so perhaps the weight chart could give you some clues abouit what is going on?

his weight the last 3 weeks went from 910 too 867 and I believe he is 868 now... Thats the last 3 weeks, so nothing untowards that I can see! I shall start weighing him daily and see.

He loves his tummy being massaged... You know the way if you tickle a dogs tummy he lifts his back leg. Well he was lifting his back leg and seemed very happy to sit and be massaged!

Maybe he just has a rumbling tummy I haven't gave him pepers in 3 days and since hes not had them the rumbling started going to buy him peppers tonight! See if that helps, he is def tioleting just not much! Maybe it is nothing! rolleyes

He is however losing weight and therefore that together with the rumbly tummy could be the early signs of dental problems - my Grommie has to have his molars done every 4-5 months and a slight weight loss and windy tummy is the first sign....might be worth getting a cavy savvy vet or rodentologist to check his molars

Other things that might cause windy tummies in some of my pigs are prepacked green veg that has been in the fridge for a couple of days and may contain an odd bit "on the turn"........and some don;t respond well to starchier root veggies. For windy pigs, I normally remove veggies for a couple of days, leaving only hay and pellets and then feed them Recovery with probioitic and Vit C off a spoon - seems to get them back on course.

Hope he's providing you with a pile of little presents soon
xx

Pebbles I think your spot on I have been noticing it looks as though he is struggling to eat its as if he has to eat his foot a certain way if you know what I mean... I didn't think his mouth could be linked to his tummy!
