Worrying Times - Bladder Piggie Now Has Pneumonia

Thank you @flintstones for your kind words - I did read them before I went to the vet and was glad I did.

Sadly I felt I had to let Pringle go - I had a long talk to the vet about options and prognosis and it was all dire to be honest. And the vet (who knows him well as we have been there a lot in recent months) said that Pringle is tough and stocial and so hiding pain more than most guinea pigs making the decisions even harder :(. He was eating cucumber right until the last moment and went to sleep in my arms. If he had been a soldier, he would have been the last one left defending his outpost just so brave. Sleep well Pringle.

A post mortem xray showed P had a very enlarged heart, various changes in chest cavity and also some more bladder stones so he was very ill. If I had opted for xrays today (and he wasn't strong enough to be honest) then the vet would have advised not waking him up from the sedation. All grim but at least confirmed PTS probably the right choice for Pringle. We will miss him so very much.

I'm so sorry. Am glad you know what the problem was though as it helps to give closure and can also help other pigs in the future.

So sorry for your loss Laura. His prognosis was very similar to my Milo. Although he wanted to soldier on he'd never of had been pain free and his quality of life would always be affected. I hate when we have to make this decision and know just how hard the guilt is to deal with. Remember you made the very best choice for your little man.

Maybe. I don't think an earlier definite diagnosis would have changed a lot in his case considering what else was going on. At least he only had 2 weeks of being low - and even then he some good times.

His little face wasn't there this morning at the front of his cage waiting for his breakfast and his metacam. I just want him back with us today :(

So sad. What a wonderful boy he was and what a totally pampered life he had with you Laura. Its hard but you definitely made the right decision for Pringle. He will be running around with his dear piggy friends now, free from pain and eating all the cucumber he can get! Thinking of you x

Thank you - I was just feeling the loss this morning. But I will get myself together - the remaining 6 pigs will make sure of that!
Colin seems quiet and a bit timid today - he followed Pringle's lead usually but is eating well.

I am so sorry to read about Pringle. It is never easy to let a guinea pig go. But the pm showed he was a really sick guinea pig and any further treatment would have only prolonged his suffering. Such a shame but you decided to help him the only way you could. He would thank you for that if he could. Take care Laura. Val xx

Are you going to put Colin with Cheeky Laura? I hope they get along, don't see why not, l can't imagine Colin being pesky like milky was. Hope you are feeling a bit better today x

I am still feeling pretty rubbish about losing him but trying to get going again!
Yes I would love Colin to pair up with Cheeky if possible. I would start with side by side living and see the reaction - when do you think I should think about starting that?

Whenever you feel ready Laura. I think Colin and Cheeky would love to be with a friend again x
