Worst Experience Of My Life In Vets!

I forgot to add. Pixie pig has improved massively since her cancer diagnosis. Her weight is back to normal and she's back to pottering about her cage and giving me smiles. She's playing me though, her cage is next to my desk and she keeps giving me feed me eyes. Naturally i'm obliging, giving her as much as she wants while she is still wanting to eat. I noticed aswell, I cant feel the tumour in her stomach anymore, so it must of shrunk. The vet said that may happen with the meds. I'm thinking of taking her for another xray/ultrasound to see whats going on.
Fingers crossed for you and your piggies. X

Cat welfare are ringing the vets first thing to find out what's happened to the cat and from the sounds of it a complaint is going off to rcvs from them.

If others on here want to complain about this advert let me know and ill pm the link and email. The more that go the better me thinks.

I'm wondering if it's possible someone has seen the advert in the vets and then put it online. Would a vet REALLY place a free ad?!

Dear Ms X

Thank you for your correspondence, received 30 May 2014.

Your complaint will now be passed to the Case Manager who will be in contact as soon as possible.

Little update:

I have just left a message on your answerphone – I am sorry I didn’t get to speak to you.

I have had the matter looked at by a veterinary assessor and I am in the process of drafting letters to go out to you and the veterinary practice.

I am raising an allegation of failing to provide emergency care and will be asking the vets for their account of what happened. Once I have their response I will forward you a copy so that you can make any further comments. The matter will then be looked at by two Case Examiners (a vet and a lay person) who will decide whether the matter needs to go any further.

It would be good to speak to you if you have a minute, so please give me a call when you can.

Kind regards

It is good that they haven't just dismissed your referral. The vet is being asked to account for what happened, so it will be interesting to see what they say.

Indeed, looking forward to reading their version of events which will be colorful I'm sure.

Congratulations on passing your exams. So sorry to hear the vets haven't bothered to put in a response, that's appalling it really is

Not sure if the vets have replied or not, but the rcvs says a letter is on the post.

Thanks for the up date. I was wondering how things were progressing. Congratulations on passing your exams with good marks.

"The veterinary nurse manning reception did triage Rosie and informed the vet of her condition which did not indicate immediate suffering"

I have no words for this...every single person who works there has lied, even those not involved.

That is the problem with making complaints basically it's your word against the vet practice. If there were no independent witnesses who could support your sequence of events then it's down to someone having to make a decision using the balance of probabilities and what is reasonably acceptable. I would feel angry as it's only natural you will feel that way after what you went through. It just goes to show that businesses and organisations sometimes do not own up to their errors or bad practices. I am sorry that you still haven't had the satisfaction of getting the vets to accept they were at fault. Try not to let it pray on your mind. It will do you no good at all. You did all you could and no one could do more.

There's actually a lot of contradictions in the statements that I will be pointing out.

From what I've read so far this is a colossal mistake on the nurses part and not the actual vets.

I asked before but don't think I got an answer...

At any point while you were waiting did you tell them she was deteriorating? I expect that will be key to everything in any investigation

What!?! your guinea was bleeding... If this does not suggest suffering i dont know what does. Its just awful on their part... Uuuurgh!

My complaint hasn't been upheld by the rcvs on the basis that this wasn't serious enough to amount to misconduct. However, they also picked up on the nurse who contradicted herself by saying she had a "quick glance" which made my point for me that the triage was inadequate. The letter says they are "very concerned" by this qnd have issued a warning for them to put something proper in place to ensure this doesn't happen again. Also says the warning will stay on file against there name for " several years". Not the win I wanted but at least they've been made to put an adequate triage in place.

Awful treatment on the vets part, RIP sweet piggy

Well they've lost a client now. I've spend a fortune in their over the years. They've reduced there prices to compete with the second vet and that's were I've gone!

I am really sorry you didn't get what you wanted. But you did get some success with the warning that's going to be on record for a few years. That means they'll have to address the inadequate triage assessment for future cases which should be of help to future owners. You are wise to find another vet after what that practice did. I hope you never have to face a situation like that again.

Hi Zara
I have helped several people over the last few years with their complaints to vet practices and RCVS over their pigs treatment. It's always going to be difficult in these situations to get the result you want.
I think that, whilst the outcome may be disappointing for you personally , it is actually a major positive result - the vet practice GOT A WARNING. Yours is the first case I'm aware of where the RCVS have actually ACTED to support a complaint against a vet ref guinea pigs treatment..You obviously presented a very clear and compelling case to answer - it must have been very painful for you to recall the events.

So whilst the outcome may be disappointing to you personally in the tragic circumstances - please do not underestimate what you have achieved.

I'm very sorry you lost Rosie under the circumstances you describe.
I'm glad you are changing practices ....and I'm even more glad that you elected to fight your corner via RCVS and a warning was given.
By getting this result - you have done Rosie proud!
HTH
