Hi! I am ever so sorry for your loss. It is our all worst nightmare when we are dealing with a sudden mystery death in more than one piggy.
Please see a vet and have your remaining piggies vet checked. Two piggies dying within a day of each other either points to a highly infectious or an...
Thanks so much! I separated them for the night as I was petrified they'd hurt each other again and when I checked in the morning Archie had somehow got to Arlo and they seemed fine, but I separated them again as I was going to work and I'm really worried. Home now and they seem okay but do you...
Hi! If necessary, take the third boy out and gently disinfect the wound with some saline solution either from the pharmacy or made at home by stirring 1 teaspoon of salt into half a pint/250 ml of boiled cooled water.
Unfortunately three baby boars is a recipe for disaster; about 90% of baby...
Handle your guinea pigs as little as possible and use disposable gloves. Wash your hands thoroughly before and after you deal with your guinea pigs. Ideally, you get a second pair of slippers which you use for the rest of the house, so you do not accidentally carry any spores around where your...
Hi and welcome
Please have all your guinea pigs seen by a vet as soon as possible for ringworm (highly transmittable fungal infection). If the outbreak has happened within 2 weeks of your purchase, you can reclaim the vet cost from the pet shop because exposure and infection will have happened...
When I’m trying wash and disinfect their hay corners ( always peed silly!) even if they are outside nibbling grass they will suddenly appear and get under my feet and want to run all over the wet areas! Bless!
As many of you know I have outside piggies. I get them out of the hutch as often as I can so that they can have a change of scenery and some exercise in the run. I was getting a bit concerned that the patio was a bit cold for their little feeties and tummies. So I put an old duvet down on top...
Guinea pigs can die from sheer fright, like when being acutely threatened by a fox or a rat. And they often die after an attack on an outdoors hutch. Generally, it is not all piggies, only the ones that have a weak heart or are very frail.
In your case, no, yours haven't died from sheer fright...
No its my only guinea pig but I'm considering getting another one after i heal this one.I clean cage 1 to 2 times a day and every 5-6 days i clean the whole cage with anti bacterial / fungal cleaning solution
Do you have any other piggies? It's so important
to ensure that it can't be spread to any other piggies via spores from your hands etc. No doubt you are using gloves etc and have disinfected their cage/ hutch. Concerned it could be Ringworm so it's important to use something like f10 to scrub...
it does look fungal. Please make sure you practice very high standard hygiene as some types of fungal skin problems can be contagious, both to the other piggy/piggies and to you! It can be very easy to treat but you need to make sure you disinfect the cage/hutch fully to ensure the contamination...
I picked one of my boars, Rubix, up for a cuddle earlier and noticed a lump under the fur on his back (see pics below). It doesn't appear to have bothered him so far, as there's no fur missing or any other evidence of him over grooming or worrying at it. He was a little fussy when I was taking...
I am very sorry for poor Charcoal and your odyssey. You should hopefully be able to reclaim at least the vet cost for his treatment for problems that have originated at the shop. You can also complain to your local council over trading standards for selling damaged wares, in your case an already...
What you have noticed is very likely the egg cases of hay/fur mites (chirodiscoides caviae). The mites themselves are invisible.
Please see a vet; my own prefers to treat with a full repeat course of stronghold as the most efficient way. You will need to treat all guinea pigs in contact to...
Help... sorry can't give any pics. Noticed that my dark guinea pig had on her rear back where the fur parts in a little crest little black dots on the fur and her skin. I cud pick them off her hair but couldn't see them move. She seems happy enough so I was going to get some spot on drops and...
Did you mean damage the hutch? If so, then I can't recommend enough the importance of lining your hutches with lino! Makes it easier to sweep, clean and disinfectant.
I have searched the forum and read majority of posts re, fungal infections....and the internet!
What extent do any of you go to who's pigs have had fungal infections. In terms of their accommodation? I came across one site which said to throw your wooden hutch away! I have 6 ft two tier hutch...
It's always at the most inopportune moments, I picked up Daisy today and felt something under her chin and she has a red scabby patch about the size of a 2p which looking on here looks like fungal. The indoor cage is out and shes quarantined (none of the others have any scabs or bald patches so...
