Hi, I’m wondering how many on here have their piggies on a pelletfreediet? Mine already get mountains of unlimited hay and 1 cup fresh veggies each per day, alongside small amounts of dried forage. We have already moved away from commercial treats and instead give pea flakes and dried...
So glad she’s doing well after her surgery. It’s definitely a good idea to look at a low calcium diet. And if you’re giving bottles water, please check the calcium content as the calcium levels vary significantly from brand to brand.
Please do take a look at our helpful guides which give you...
...off without any dried food than giving the food which contains too many sugary and unhealthy items.
My piggies are on a pretty much pelletfreediet.
They get hay and a variety of veg every day and that’s essentially it.
On a Wednesday and on a Sunday, they are given just five pellets each...
What veg do you feed please? I'm giving Fonzie a teaspoon of piggie parcels and that is it and I'm having problems.
Do you know how long it takes for a sludge wee after a food that could cause it? His diet is definitely not too high but wondering if there is something that is bothering him
You don't need to feed pellets if you're not comfortable feeding them. They are not really esssentiel to a guinea pig's diet.
Mine get a bit of Science Selective and Versele Laga pellets but just as special treats.
You could also have a look around here but I'm not sure if they are soy free...
I am almost pelletfree. Mine get five pellets each twice a week (on a Wednesday and a Sunday) handfed as a treat.
You share they get nutrients by providing a wider variety of veg.
Mine get lettuce, cucumber, coriander and bell pepper every day as the basis but I add in other veggies also...
Where does that information come from? Like why would that happen? I don't understand why it would cause it and this is the only place I have read it.
He has meadow hay, timothy hay all the time. Morning he has cucumber, pepper, romaine lettuce. No diet variety due to his cage mate with issues...
Kale is the highest calcium containing vegetable but all pellets (even low calcium ones) still contain more calcium than kale.
A completely dry diet with no veg is never something I would do - I’d ditch the pellets entirely but would not go veg free. But as I say, you have to find the right...
Hi
I am very sorry
A stronger diuretic like frusol (not sure whether it is a UK brand name or not), which contains furosemide but also some citric acid and some other stuff is helpful in stimulating the regular flushing of the bladder with stronger pees so there is less of a risk of bacteria...
Billy pig, has been advised to have a pelletfreediet, after having bladder stones removed last Friday.
I suspect I am over thinking this, but do we need to do anything different? We already filter water, and only occasionally feed high in calcium veg. Can he still have the occasional bit of...
...overly keen on any pellets but quite like the ones pictured- are these ok for them- I only give half a tablespoon each or would a pelletfreediet be ok for them? I’m scared of pellets as my Piggy Muffin died from bladder stones and I always worry about the calcium in them. Equally I don’t...
Thank you this is really helpful. I’ve always wondered if there’s certain health benefits to different dried forages? Like I’ve read some are anti inflammatory, some are beneficial for the bladder?
He's mister attitude, a truly devil in disguise. He has a reputation at the vet office and yesterday he was trying to do a Mike Tyson-jab on vet. He was so angry after doing x-rays and runned from the vet after she's been giving him a shot of methadone in his sweet little bumm. He washed himself...
@Piggies&buns
So we’ve got a 3 in 1 tap like yourself.
The calcium on United Utilities website is listed as the typical value being 6.76 for our area.
We have a 3 in 1 boiling water tap. It has a cold water filter that remove impurities but doesn’t change the water hardness.
I have just...
The vet didn't let him be seen today or tomorrow as it 'wasn't an emergency'! and they had no appointments. I persisted and they said that if I drop him off in the morning they will keep him as a hospital patient and when a vet is free they will check him over. Which is triple the price than...
I was overreacting with the cucumber. They were not. Someone literally wrote me it will kill them. How to adjust for babies? I have read 2 slices per day per animal so per baby it will be half? And if they were used only to eat carrot how fast can I eliminate it from their diet? I currently give...
Thanks all. He's just at the vets now with hubby who's dropping him off.
He stayed overnight with us last night and seemed to be using his back legs a little more though I think that's because he perked up a bit when he got back and was with his girlfriend again. He's been eating well this...
Lots of pooping is good!
It’s when they stop pooping which is an emergency situation.
He should only have just one tablespoon per day of kibble/pellets and then once those few have gone it doesn’t get topped up until the next day.
Dry food like pellets (what you call kibble we call pellets or...
