A New Buddy for King Edward Potato

I'm glad that one was rather easier than the previous one! Must be these bitchy ladies making life difficult ...
Yes! This was sooo much easier than bonding Tigery aka Lola 🤣 if only it was always as straightforward.
They look content this morning, so look to have spent a peaceful night. I will be moving them into the piggy shed later on, once everything is clean and ready and am hoping that will go smoothly too.

Unfortunetly King Edward and Pendragon have not been getting on so well and on Sunday I decided it was time to separate them, 3 weeks and 3 days after they were introduced.

The first week they were together things seemed to go ok but with a little tension, then during the second week Pendragon took to sometimes chasing King Edward round the cage at full speed, like he was trying to chase him away (as opposed to simply pursuing him trying to mount him). I hoped it was something they could work through as it was still within the 2 week bonding time frame and it did seem to stop but Pendragon continued to show other bullying type behaviours, namely often lying outside one entrance to the house King Edward was in, while staring at the other entrance, then if King Edward came out he would either put his head over the top of KE and pull his ears or push his nose into his fur and give him a poke.
Either way KE would retreat and Pendragon would do a little popcorn:(. He has never injured him or stopped him eating his veggies and doesn't always guard the house KE is in but doesn't like it if he starts to wonder about the cage. KE has been looking sad, being confined and unable to express himself, then yesterday Pendragon was chasing him round and round again and I decided enough was enough.

I think Pendragon has felt a little insecure in his top pig role, he was the under pig in his previous pairing, while KE was top pig in both of his. KE is seven now, if he was younger I think he would have been top pig again and Pendragon knows this.

Anyway, I am back to three single boars. In the next day or two I will see if King Edward would like to live with Pascal (who also lost his brother not long ago). If that works out I will just need to find a new friend for Pendragon.

I am sorry they didn't get on in the end. These boys and their dominance! I hope you can sort something out for them. I know how hard it can be sometimes. I've 4 single boys here at the moment!

Aw sorry to hear that! Bonding is so tough and go isn't it.
Hopefully you can rearrange and will be left with only one pig alone.
We have a single baby boy available in the next two weeks if you are interested, although I understand it's a big age gap!

I have my eye on Tiger:love: lol! But will have to see how things go.

Aw I was reading your updates with such excitement. I’m so sorry that things didn’t work out 😞 My girls decided they didn’t like Wiebke’s baby boar several hours in to the bonding after things looked so good and it really is heart breaking when things don’t work out 😞 fingers crossed that King Edward Potato does find a boar that he likes x

King Edward and Pascal are in the bonding pen.
Straight away they were like

"Oh hello, I'm King Edward pleased to meet you"
"Hello pleased to meet you too. I'm Pascal"
"Want to be friends?"
"Yes"
"Great. Let's eat some hay."

And now they are buddies!

From the the very mild and brief dominance behaviour they have shown, King Edward appears to be top pig, which is where he needs to be but mostly they both just seem to be happy to have a friend, King Edward even did a little popcorn within the first couple of minutes.

Oh how lovely. You must be so relieved.
Yes! I think it's a much better match than with Pendragon, altogether calmer and more like they've always known each other. Every so often they do a little nose to tail rumble dance but I'm not expecting any fallout overnight🤞
