Dental Anselmo - Teeth Issues

So, I've gotten him up so I can clean his cage. He's had a good wee and lots of little poops overnight.

His head movements seem to have gotten alot better but the issue has travelled down to his back legs. He can't/won't use them. I've given him a little wash as he had a bit of wee of him and his back right leg is okay but he won't use it. His left leg seems to be worse, he doesn't seem to acknowledge that it's there.

He's eating bits of veg that I give him, and I'm giving him a few syringes of CC throughout the day.

Hopefully the leg problem will improve as quickly as his balance issue yesterday. Would an infection cause randomness like this, one minute complete balance loss then not being able to use your back legs, very odd.

I'm not sure whether to ring the vet and update them. They won't be able to do anything for him though, we just need to ride today out, see how things go.

Thanks Debbie. I've left Simon a message and grabbed a Panaur from the pet shop, just in case he says go ahead xx
 
I've got the go ahead to try it. I got the rabbit version of panacur, so I'll try him with half a graduation as that would be equal to his weight.

I'm going to give it to him tomorrow, as I'm a bit wary of giving him so many medications, along with him not eating properly is likely to make him a bit gassy.
 
Hope he starts picking up soon, i've had piggies with dental issues in the past and it was a very anxious time with barely any sleep. Best wishes to you & stay strong Anselmo! :hug:
 
He's still the same @furryfriends (TEAS). He's more upright, but he's still not walking at all. He's really not happy about using his back legs, one he will move but the other he really won't move on his own. He's still got a little bit of a wobbly head but nothing anywhere near like it was.

I can't work out what has happened to his back leg but I have two thoughts in mind:
1) It's the infection/issue and hopefully the Zithromax and Panacur might help
2) He's sprained'/hurt his leg on Tuesday when he was having the worst of his balance issues. He did fall on his side a few times. He does have pretty bad arthritis and had to see Simon sometime in Oct (I think) when he stopped using on of his front legs.

Either way there's not much I, or Simon can do in the short term. So I need to give him a few more days to see what happens.

He is eating sometimes, but not enough of his own and is being very picky.

He is pooping, but this morning they were a lot smaller than normal, so he's obviously not eating enough. I've got to feed him more, but it's tough as I'm at work now so can only get 2 or 3 feeds in.

I have left him surrounded by hay seeds (which he does eat), different hays and some veg. And watching him on PigCam he's turned around a few times and has been eating.
 
Me not being around during the day for the past two days has put us back a bit. He will eat a little bit on his own but as time passes he's becoming more fussy on what he'll have. Last night he would only nibble on hay. He wouldn't even try his dill and he would normally kill for a piece of dill.

His poops are getting smaller but they're still coming so today I will be trying to get as much syringe food into him that I can. I'm also going to try him with some poop soup to see if that helps stimulate his digestive system a bit.

His weight is slowly decreasing, he's just over 1 kg now compared to 1090g on Monday. Not massive but I need it to stop.

He's still bright and alert although this morning he was very snuffly and so is in his nebuliser at the moment. He did have a good wiggle as I was trying to put him in so he's still fighting.

He seems to be slowly becoming more aware of his back legs. He is standing up again and I have seen him move them although they're not coordinated yet.

He still has something wrong with his mouth. When he will eat he'll quite happily chew a big piece of lettuce or a long hay seed but he can't bite through things. He was having a bite at the Metacam box yesterday and he's only leaving dents in it, not biting through it.
 
He's just been out for another top up of syringe food and we've found something he wants to eat... his own poops. Go ahead little buddy! Obviously his tum isn't feeling great so he's had a bit more probiotic.

After a couple of ml he decided to try a bit of hay.

His front teeth are starting to slant a little again but I think that's understandable at the moment as he's not completely back to normal balance wise yet.

If he's not improving soon I'll contact Simon to see if he wants me to bring him in early on his appointment to x-ray or scan him.

Here he is having a chew on a seed head. It took quite a while as he couldn't bite through the stalk like he usually does, but he looks like his normal self.

Well, I think he's starting to bloat up, or at least get very gassy. His stomach is quite big, but spongy and at his nightly weigh in he's down 20g from this morning.

He's also not eating at all now. He's been lying in his cage with his head in the hay, which isn't unusual as he is 7 and likes to sleep alot. But he keeps shifting around and lifting one of his back legs up. He does that when he's starting to bloat.

Although I don't really want to add more meds into the mix I've given him Emeprid.

My usual tactic is to get him out and make sure he moves around, employing one of the other pigs as help if I need it. But with him not being able to walk I'm not sure what to try.

I really don't know why this is happening. I feel like i'm 5 minutes away from a panic attack, which isn't going to help either of us.

I have no idea what has caused this, he was eating and pooping when I last posted.
 
Do you have a massage pad or an electric toothbrush? you could try vibration therapy instead? Or take him for a ride in the car.
 
The car is a good idea. That has helped before when we had to go to the ER vet due to his bloat. I'll get him packed up.

Should I keep feeding him as his weight is still going down?

He's still very much the same.

I'm usually quite good at spotting gas and bloat in him, but with him having his balance issues I just can't tell whether he's standing funny because of his stomach or his legs.

He's also quite sleepy after a few ml and wants to lie down. But he is 7 and I very rarely see him betweek 10pm and 6am on normal day. He can stay asleep when I look into his cage.

We've had no poops since about 4pm but I'm not sure if that's to do with him not getting many syringes yesterday as I was at work and then passed out a 9.30.

I really hope he picks up by the morning. I'm not going to be able to take Monday off so I won't be able to feed him, or take him to Simon if he gets worse.

I've had the talk with my boyfriend and we think that if he doesn't pick up soon then we might have him PTS. He's old now and his days are usually filled with lots of sleep and some eating of hay. Now he can't do one of those things, and I think he misses his bigger cage.
 
Still no poops, and still a big tummy. He's not showing any of the usual signs though, such as sitting very still, hair sticking up and eyes squinting.

I heard a few rumbles and as now I'm getting to desparate times I've given him 0.2ml of gripe water.

Both times I had to rush him to the emergency vet for his bloat they gave him an injected dose of Emeprid, which I had been giving to him orally. If he's not deflated or pooped by his next feeding session I'm very tempted to take him again for an injected dose.
 
We're at the ER. His tummy is still very large and we started to get a few pops and whistles going on. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad.

Just before I brought him out he did produce a tiny poop so at least he doesn't have a blockage.

I'm hoping the vet injects some Emeprid and gives me some Zantac, just in case. But if I need to come back again later for another injection I'm happy too.
 
He had an injection of Emeprid and Zantac about 8.30am. Normally he shows signs of improvement after injections in no more than and hour but this time there's nothing.

He's back to zero poops and if anything he seems worse than this morning. I'm not sure if his balance is getting worse or I'm just being paranoid. Plus he does want to move around anymore though.

I'm exhausted from being up most of the night so I'm going to have a couple of hours sleep.

If there are no signs of improvement when I get up I think I'll be taking him to be PTS. I couldn't bare to leave him alone when I'm at work in this condition, and he's starting to look unhappy.

Fingers and toes crossed but I think this tough old boars time is almost up.
 
Still no poops...

I'm still feeding him but it just feels like I'm making his stomach bigger.

I'm going to have another nap and then see how he is. The plan is to go to the ER vet unless there is a miracle improvement. At the least another Emeprid and Zantac injection is what I can do for him.

His eyes are still bright and he's looking around so I feel like the devil if I had him PTS now. But, if he's no better later I'm going to ask the ER to do a scan. They might not be able to read it correctly but it's the least I can try.

I just dread to imagine going to work tomorrow and leaving him, and something like torsion or a stomach twist happens. I've seen that before and it's excruciating for them.

Awww poor boy :( So sorry he is not improving, keeping fingers & paws crossed here for him & massive ((hugs)) for you too xx
 
We've just got back from our second trip to the ER and he's had his injection again. More Emeprid.

The vet has asked me to leave him alone for a few hours to see how he does. I'm not sure if I've done the right thing or not but I've put him back in his regular cage, seeing as he can walk now.

His weight is the same as yesterday, still no poops and he doesn't want any food. He did wee at the vet.

The vet suggested I bring him him tonight and continue to syringe feed and if he's still the same arrange an urgent appointment for scans/xrays.

I hate to do it but I'm going to have to text my boss to say I won't be in tomorrow and try to get him into see Simon/Kim tomorrow asap.
