Hey guys, my piggie always makes this sound when he's pat (he's only about 7 weeks old). It sounds a bit distressing yet his body language seems ok? I have searched all over the internet for guides and can't seem to find an equivalent sound.

Btw, that bald patch on his nose is from mites - I've taken him to the vets already and he's been on treatment:)

Thanks in advance guys!

Sounds are always dependent on the situation
- at his age he may not be comfortable with being held or away from his cage mate.
Is he calling out to the other piggy?

Is it definitely mites and not ringworm?

I usually hear that noise more when they're upset. Maybe he feels you're petting him a little too hard? Try using one or two fingers to pet him instead of your whole hand and see if that makes the noise stop. Most guinea pigs in my experience also don't enjoy being stroked around their back end -- it's a more vulnerable place for them since they can't see to that area very well. Around their head is usually a safe petting place for most pigs; some might be comfortable with pets around their shoulders too. One of my girls really doesn't like being stroked but I've discovered that she'll put up with (& sometimes even looks like she enjoys) being scratched on the top of her head or having her ears gently massaged. It's basically trial and error to figure out what kind of petting (if any) your piggie prefers most.
