I don't really have a problem with them, I mean a pig is essentially a pig isn't it, and sphinx cats (the bald ones) are definately an aquired taste but are genuinely lovely animals. I do worry that if they 'catch on' in the UK there will be quite a few that are abandoned once the novelty wears off or worse left to freeze out in a hutch
I guess that a fear with any 'new' breed or species that become popular-a good example was the craze for dwarf hamsters a couple of years back which meant that alot of the dear creatures were homed in unsuitable cages, either far too small or in some cases too big; there were lots of cases of people buying 'tube based housing' which meant an animal which was too small to climb vertical tubes literally starved to death because it simply could not reach the compartment that had food in it.
As far as the black pigs being hard to rehome, in my experience I've found that dark self colours; black, browns, greys etc are considered by
some to be quite plain and boring and therefore harder to rehome. t's all eugenics really, preperceived ideas culturally established through false ideologies...consider the fact that fewer people dye their own hair black than that dye their hair blonde because of the idea that 'blondes have more fun' and stand out of the crowd, and how many times do you hear of people dying their hair 'mousy brunette'...sorry I got a bit carried away then but I hope my points make some sense; who knew guinea pigs could warent such cultural discussion ;D
Edited to add:.. and for the record I like red eyes/albinos etc
