I noticed five days ago that Fen had a bald patch on her chin and the skin was kinda dry. Got worried it was ringworm so I got her to the vet the very next day. Luckily they don’t suspect it’s ringworm and said it could likely be a “moisture infection”? I was recommended some disinfectant pet-wipes (chlorhexedine) to use on the spot three times a day and to keep an eye on its progress.

It’s been five days though and not much has changed. The skin isn’t dry anymore but no fur is growing back and no new bald patches has emerged as far as I can tell. I have noticed that she grooms that spot quite a bit though. Any advice or ideas? Of course the vet’s advice takes priority, just looking for more perspectives.

Thanks!

Hi

Since the spot has not grown, you are lucky in that you are likely not dealing with ringworm as the bald area would keep growing in a rough circle. Your hair loss pattern and the lack of white exudation forming on the surface in between you wiping are also not comforming with the usual ringworm we see on here.

However, we cannot comment on what else it could be without access to your piggy and with only our personal owner experience. Has your veg checked the inside of the mouth in case the problem could sit in the skin in there and what you see on the outside is just the result of ongoing overgrooming because of discomfort in or just underneath the skin?

The vet did not check the inside of the mouth. I’ll bring this up during the next checkup, thank you!

Hi, I forgot to update on this situation. We’re all okay now! I called the vet and they told me to keep going with the wipes for a bit longer before taking any further steps, and that was definitely the right decision!

Here is the spot after ~a week of cleaning it 2 - 3 times a day with the wipes:

And here it is after ~2 weeks:

Right now, it’s all gone! Fen is happy to not have those stinky wipes all up in her face, and I’m even happier that she’s okay and I don’t have to wrestle her 3 times a day anymore. Ugh, she’s a pain <3

I am glad that it has all healed up again. Thank you for your update. It is always great to know the outcome; especially for people doing searches as well.
