Charlottibiscot
New Born Pup
I've had a rescue long hair Abyssinian, Ermintrude, for 6 months now and she is awful with haircuts. She hates being touched or petted in general and despite being very friendly this is just a personality trait of hers.
She is a very dominant guinea pig who puts up with nothing from anyone. She will not tolerate anyone even lightly touching her rear half and will flip round and jab you, scramble away, and even resort to biting if you try to cut her hair with scissors.
Giving her food actually seems to make her *more* angry
Cutting her hair right now takes me 2 days and is only semi- successful (usually can only do enough to keep it mostly off the floor). I give her baths every 3 months / as needed but her fur quickly gets peed on and matted despite being kept on fleece bedding.
For reference I am experienced in guinea pig grooms with scissors since I used to do it as a job and so have successfully groomed multiple terrified guinea pigs using correct techniques and become a bit of a guinea pig whisperer... but my guinea pig is by far the worst I've ever had!
I want to try using clippers - does anyone have any recommendations?
Ideally they'd be:
- Silent / very quiet
- Soft on the fur
- Able to be used with the grain of her fur rather than against it
- affordable (around £15-30 max)
- Safe so I don't have to worry about accidentally cutting her skin
- give a very short finish, less than 4 or 5mm at most.
- mainly for use around her rear
Feel free to attach links
Thanks in advance!
