Betsy's Guinea Pigs

I noticed it a couple of weeks ago that Misty had a painful back halfway up her spine so gave her some Metacam for 7 days and the pain went away, stopped it for week and it became painful again then put her back on Metacam again and the pain stopped, took her off the Metacam a couple of days ago and made an appointment at the vet. The vet gave her a once over and declared Misty a very healthy piggy. Then the vet concentrated on her back and, obviously, Misty wasn't responding very well to any prodding that the vet was doing in the tender area of her back (although she had jumped in pain half an hour before at home). The vet said that Misty could feel her feet and her reflexes were OK so there didn't appear to be any swelling around her spine but she did show a bit of discomfort. So gave Misty some more Metacam. The vet said that if Misty didn't get better, it may be that she would have to go on Metacam long term and if this was the case, all I had to do was phone up and ask for a prescription.

I've had 2 piggies on long term Metacam (Silver Fox Christian 🌈 and his sister Shy Little Meg 🌈 ) so I'm quite used to dealing with it.
Hello
Sorry to hear little piggie in discomfort with her back.

This morning, I gave Misty her weekly check and only touched where I know her back hurts very gently and she screamed in pain. Never heard a piggie scream in agony before and never want to again. Poor girl but she's still happy in herself which is the main thing.

I let the know vet the dose I was giving Misty as I gave he Metacam before seeing the vet. The vet told me to be guided by her. I'll speak to the vet tomorrow and say that the dosage needs to be upped a bit.
Poor girl 😔

Saxon, you are a doll! Welcome and congratulations on landing on all four paws!
