Betsy's Guinea Pigs

I think Saxon is starting to trust me. He's still not keen on being picked up but we are working on that together. When I have (eventually) managed to pick him up, he lets me carry him to the cuddle chair (yes I have a specific chair for cuddle time) and we have a cuddle until he starts pulling at my piggy pinny with his teeth to let me know he's had enough. This can either be a short time or a slightly longer time I let him set the length of cuddle time. After that it's coriander which he is now eating straight from my hand whereas before he was so scared he wouldn't eat it and would only eat it when he was put down. He is then put in the run with Misty and Bramble for grass time and breakfast (pellet) time.

Saxon is a confident chap who is starting to show his cheeky side. He is very food orientated and will push the hutch door open with his nose when he hears the bolt being pulled. He will then put his feet on the side where the door meets up and stretch as far as he can for food. I always attempt to put my body in the way so that he can't fall out and so he puts his front feet on me to try and get my attention. He is also a quick learner. Every evening at hutch time, I put the snuggle sack express in the run and Saxon walks into it to go back in the hutch, then it's Bramble's turn and then Misty's. It took a year to teach Misty and Bramble to do this, with Saxon it took 6 weeks. He knows that being back in the hutch equals veggie dindins. Misty and Bramble have taught him a lot, and he, in turn has taught them that being out and about when I'm there is a good thing. Misty and Bramble used to dart for cover whenever I went into the garage now they just stay where they are.

Saxon does not like his nails being cut. I'm gonna have to wrap him up piggy burrito style in order to cut his nails. I've not had to do that since Rainbow Piggie Christian. Also my helper (either Son No 3 or OH) will need to wear my leather gardening gloves as Saxon can be very free with his teeth! I'll have a pot of Coriander for Saxon to chomp on so that he is distracted so will chomp on that instead of the gloved fingers of Son No 3 or OH!

I clearly did something wrong this morning (probably not enough coriander) as Sir Saxon gave my finger a nasty nip this morning luckily he didn't break the skin. I've not had a bitey piggie before! I'll have to nip that one in the bud quickly!

Dear Sir Saxon Canute.
We heard that you viciously bit your slave this morning.
You might need to have a wheek with Miss Bramble about dealing with minuscule pieces of coriander.
I never nipped because I am a very gentle pig and I just look at my slave who gives me everything I want.
Love from Moses

Cuddle time with Saxon was a lot calmer this morning. I went back to Stage 1 which meant getting him out of the hutch using the cuddle sack express (he's used to going back into the hutch after a day out in the run in the cuddle sack express). He went quite happily into it this morning, we had calm morning cuddles. I've discovered he has suddenly decided that he now thoroughly enjoys chinny rubs, he even went into a chinny rub trance. Then he let me give him a few strokes whilst purring all the time before he'd had enough and went back into the snuggle sack express for his coriander and then to be put in the run for the day.
