The weight after the op is her new weight.. Thats what you are going on now, as shes lost her uterus and cystic, fluid filled ovaries which obviously had a bit of weight to them.

If you are worried top her up with syringe feed, its normally enough to stimulate the appetite back to its usual state. This should be enough in beans case i would say x

Good point I never thought about that.. but even going from her new weight of 1103g, she's down 31g. I know that's not a massive amount by as she's constantly eating surely her weight would be going up not down?

It depends on how much hay she is eating; you cannot control that. 30g is also within the daily variance of full/empty tummy/bladder. She is still a very good weight, and as she is eating and well in herself so shortly after a major op, I would not worry too much. If necessary, offer her a bowl of mushed pellets. the healing process is only now really starting.
 
Tilly lost a lot of weight after her spay, her whole body shape has changed, she now weighs 1kg and to me looks quite skinny but the Vet says her weight is fine.
 
Both mine lost quite a lot of weight post spay. The cystic ovaries etc all added to the pre surgery weight. As long as she's eating and drinking I wouldn't worry too much

How long before Beans can have hay in her bed again instead of just fleece? They're both getting on well and Beans is doing great so I want to have them together again but Toast loves having a big pile of hay in her bed (as does Beans) so would it be okay for her to lie on hay yet?
 
I am far from an expert, but I would say that with the level of care and supervision you offer, it would be fine to have Beans laying on hay again.
As you are vigilant and checking her regularly you will quickly spot any potential problems.
Plus her incision looked good and it it's not weeping, etc I think she would be fine.

Excuse the mess, I've just changed their fleece over. I've had to take away their hay loft as I've to keep Beans away from the ramps until she's all healed and I've had to put just a tiny amount of hay in their hay boxes (instead of the usual massive pile) so Beans doesn't injure her wound.. but they've got lots of hay bowls and they seem happy enough :luv:

50g loss after the op and a further 31g since then.

She's been eating hay and pellets all night and she's been munching away this morning so I don't understand how she is continuing to lose weight?

One thing I've noticed is that I haven't seen her eating any poos... would that have anything to do with it?

Maybe she pineing for toast if you put them together beans mind be fine. Just keep an eye on her weight.

Up until now Beans wound has looked really good, but I've just had a look and there's a red spot.. not too sure what it is?

I was told not to clean it, just to leave it alone which I've done.. but this red spot is new... should I be worried?
 
Yay, great to see Beans doing so well, and enjoying life with Toast.

Great set up btw, loads of space (even without the loft).

I wouldn't worry about the red spot unless it gets larger or angry.

Do you think? I don't know if she's maybe poked herself on a bit of hay? I think I'm just worried it could be an infection :td:
 
The red spot looks fine.
Clean and with pink skin around.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to smell or look angry or weep.
Chances are she poked it when bouncing around.
Glad to see the wound healing so nicely.

Turns out it doesn't matter because when I got up this morning her bed was full of hay, and the hay bowls were empty. She'd emptied all the hay from the bowls and pulled it into her bed... :eek: she had such a smug look on her face as well as if to say "you can't stop me"... that pig is unbelievable. :doh:

I've noticed tonight that under the incision there is a bit of a lump... is that normal?

I don't know if you can tell from the picture but the left of the incision is raised and lumpy, it had been flat until now..

Not until Wednesday... but I was going to phone tomorrow and see if they'll have a look at it, you can't tell from the picture very well but it's quite a big lump. Is that something that can wait until Wednesday? I never know if I'm over reacting or not..
 
I think I would see if you can get her seen sooner than Wednesday. It may just be the formation of scar tissue but I think it's best for the vet to check her over in case it is the start of an abscess.
 
I'm going to phone and see if they can squeeze me in tomorrow. Definitely don't want to leave it too long. Just when I thought it was all going well!
