Hi there!

To anyone that can offer some help or guidance. We are not first time owners, but have never had this problem before:

Our newest piggy, Barney, is around 20 weeks, and over the past few weeks he has become very bitey, not just to our older piggy but towards us too. Whatever it is that we are doing, cleaning him, feeding him, inspecting his body, cuddling, moving, playing, or even going up to his cage to say hello he was bite. we're use to the accidental bites, or the attention bites, but this is like a nip and pull, so he'll bite our skin, and then pull it back, so it kills!, has anyone else been through this?

thanks for you help!

If he continues to bite your older guinea pig, then perhaps separate them for a while. If you have the space, try and put another cage next to the older guinea pigs and leave him in there. That way, Barney can get used to the other piggy without being able to hurt him.

As for his biting problem with humans, I don't know what you should do. Maybe try giving him so space. Has he ever had any bad experiences with people?

We have them separated already because our older boar, was violent toward his previous buddy, its during introductions he seems like he's grooming him and then pulls his hair, the older piggy doesnt like him now because of this.

As for us, when we bought him, he has ringworm, so for the first 4/5 weeks of his time with us we were treating him for this, it wasn't untill after that, probably when he was around 12/13 weeks old.

Thanks for your reply

The thread @piggieminder has mentioned is great - it has great tips and I've used it myself with one of mine who was a biter, and now doesn't bite at all.
It may be worth checking that he doesn't have a health issue that's making him bite you. Piggies with skin conditions/parasites can hate being handled. It may be worth getting a vet to check him over.
