Bonding help please

She is extremely skittish, I have never had a Guinea pig quite so skittish and hard to be caught. We had to catch her to weigh her, she went mental, she ran into one of the houses head first and knocked it over a bit. How often do I need to weigh her at her age? I don’t want to handle her more than necessary right now. He is being quite bossy even over food but they are both still squeaking happily too. He seems confused why she is refusing his demands today. Do you have a guide on handling of/taming of skittish piggies? I would ideally like to be able to cuddle her in the end, but even if she never wants to cuddle she will need trims/ nails/health check etc. she acted today like she was on some sort of drugs, I worried she might have a heart attack.

I haven’t cut into the quick til today. Just now my black piggies nail as 5ey are black. I have used pressure and cornflour as a styptic. It’s now stopped bleeding thankfully what sort of styptic powder should I buy to have on hand in future? I never thought I would need it but obviously it’s possible

Don't worry or feel guilty, it happens easily especially with black nails - I've done it myself.
It's stopped bleeding so all is well. If you ask at a pharmacy for a styptic pencil or styptic powder, they will show you what is available. I don't think there are lots of different sorts to choose from, any should be suitable so it would be whichever you think will be easiest to use, if there is a choice.

Thanks so much! She was good as gold just kept on cuddling and squeaking while I held her nail with a cotton pad and cornstarch. We gave her some cucumber and I will finish that foot tomorrow.

Is this a styptic powder or is it just an antibacterial for small cuts? I would imagine it was good to keep bacteria off a cut nail but don’t know if it has the styptic power I am looking for. It is all pets at home have! Otherwise it is a human styptic pencil, or a questionable brand of Guinea pig styptic on amazon!

I think the Johnsons would be OK, it says it is for minor wounds for small animals (with a guinea pig pictured). I have used a styptic pencil for humans or cornflour previously.
The styptic powder or pencil basically contains compounds which speed up the natural clotting process of the blood, thereby stopping the bleeding. Presumably the Johnsons has similar, but also contains antibacterial ingredients to stop infection getting into the wound.

I’ve looked at the styptic powder ingredients, they look harmful for Guinea pigs to ingest (I searched the chemical name) is cornflour the lesser evil to stench blood flow as it is less toxic? It seems like cornflour would be less toxic than the chemicals but perhaps it doesn’t work as well? Or has increased risk of infection?
