I’ve noticed Penelope is having issues biting into her oxbow vit c treats. She eats her hay just fine, drinks water fine and is even gaining weight! I looked at her teeth tonight and noticed the top right looks to be broken off. The bottom one looks to be kind of chipped as well.

She has had molar issues in the past but just a few weeks ago she had a checkup and the vet said her molars look great. I don’t think it’d be a molar problem since she still chews great, eats hay fine and once she gets a piece of food broken off, she chews it fine. It’s just the biting it off that’s the problem. I heard they regrow their teeth within 2-3 weeks. Should I just wait it out since she’s still doing great? Not sure what could have caused her to break her tooth like that though! Does that just happen? There’s nothing that would have caused her to break part of her tooth off.

Keep a close eye on both the teeth ad her weight, but a broken tooth is not a rare occurrence in guinea pigs.
Ruby is our champion tooth snapper, and I find within a few days it usually grows back and the teeth even out again.
If the tooth doesn't even out, or she starts to loose weight she needs to see a cavy say vet for a proper dental examination.

In the meantime I find cutting veggies into thin strips helps them get them into their mouth so they can chew them with the molars.

Thank you!
Have you noticed with ruby her other teeth not being straight when she has snapped one of her teeth? I noticed Penelope’s bottom teeth looks like their chipped and I wasn’t too sure why.

That was my plan, she’s been gaining weight and still eating good except for the hard vitamin c treats.
