Hi, my heart breaks to say that S’mores passed away a week ago, Sunday. I knew his life was coming to an end, he battled a unidentified illness for almost a year and I am relieved he is in a better place now.
S’mores cagemate, Pockets is now alone. He is doing well still eating and drinking fine. I know most people are like “just get another one!” But there is so much more that goes on behind the scenes of being a piggie owner. My life is getting really busy and I am not ready to get another pig for a while. It’s hard to break the piggie cycle, but I know its the best thing for Pockets to be adopted by somebody who is willing to give him the best life.
I am wondering what I should do to list him for adoption/rehoming. I am in the US so there might not be some options that there are in the UK. I am not going to surrender him to a shelter, I would rather find a family that can directly take him. He does have arthritis and I am worried people will see that as a turn off. He is doing very well with daily doses of Metacam though.

Any advice for rehoming my piggie?

Thank you so much!

So sorry you have lost S’mores, sending you hugs at this sad time x
Have you looked on the Guineapig Lynx website, they list good shelters that will vet any adoptees and also find your little Pockets a companion. I don’t know where you live in the US but here’s a link for US rescues

I am so sorry to hear about S'mores. 😔 Where do you live in the states? There are so many wonderful rescues around that would find Pockets a great home.

I’m so sorry you’ve lost S’mores. I’m sure you will find Pockets a wonderful new home. You’ve made this very hard decision with Pockets welfare in mind. Take care. ❤️

I'm so sorry to hear about S'mores. You've tried so hard for him and I'm sure he knew how much he was loved. Good luck finding a new home for Pockets... I love an older piggie myself and get a lot of joy trying to provide a comfortable home in the later years so I know there will be people out there for him 💕

As others have suggested I would really try and re-home him through a rescue if possible.
A rescue can home check and offer follow up care if his new home doesn't work out.
They will also have a contract and be in the best position to judge whether a new home is a good fit for him.

Good luck with it all - it is lovely you are able to put his needs before your own
