Hey guys
1 of our female Guineas got diagnosed with Cervical lymphadenitis (bacterial infection of the throat glands) and has been given antibiotics for it. She has a week left on them and the lumps haven’t gone down at all.
The vet said if they don’t go down the next time we next see her, poppy may need surgery.
Out of curiosity, if anyone has had this happen to their GP how much did it cost to get it drained? Snd was it a happy outcome?

Thanks.

Hi

We don't actually see many cases of CL on here; it is pretty rare so there is not much practical experience around. I am very sorry; it is one of the more unpleasant diagnoses. :(

You may however find the information in this link here very helpful as it should answer most of your questions: Cervical Lymphadenitis (CL) in the guinea pig - Guinea Lynx Forums

I’ve not come across this before. Poor Poppy. How is she doing on her antibiotics?

Thanks, apparently it’s pretty common which I was shocked about! She’s taking her antibiotics well and although one side of her lump has shrunk significantly , the other is very large and swollen.

She looks like a little bull frog at the moment 😞

Thanks so much for the useful information! Think I’ve found more about it from there than the vet! Apparently it’s common, but had never heard about it before Poppy got it 😞

I think it is much more common in the USA than it is in the UK because we only see it a every few years on the forum and not commonly at all.

Considering that we have been going for 15 years and have answered around 20,000 questions in this time; at the most it has been a handful. Over that time I think we have got a fairly good representation of how frequently certain issues crop up. ;)

Anyway, I wish you all the best!
