Our sweet 5 year old boy, Comet has sadly passed away yesterday. He has been battling a chronic ear infection since around May of last year. Unfortunately he had a really bad flare up last week which gave him an ulcer in both eyes, alongside a URI, and severe sudden weightloss making him EXTREMELY underweight. I cared for him endlessly around the clock to try and get him back to proper health, to the point I may have neglected my own health a bit. He was showing steady improvments until I got home to feed him yesterday and he couldn't stand up on his own, and you could tell by the look in his eye he wasn't fully here... so I made the most heartbreaking decision to euthanize him. And in Comet fashion, he refused to pass. (it has been a joke for the longest time that Comet will never die). I swear this little guy's lungs did not expand once for 10 minutes straight on that table while he was being put to sleep, but his heart would not quit, it wouldn't even slow the tiniest bit.

He fought very very hard this past year, and I feel somewhat relieved knowing he doesn't have to be force fed critical care and medications all day (he HATED critical care feeding time).

Today has felt very empty without him.. especially cleaning up my room that has become a mess from all of the medications and critcal care, and it was honestly the worst part of all of this. There were so many memories of all of the vet visits, it's just so sad without him.

A little about Comet that is not so sad: He LOVED bananas, it would genuinely turn him into another creature I swear. He was so large that he would scare any visitors in my room LOL. His ears would wiggle a bunch when he ate, and for some reason he felt the need to twist his entire head around while drinking from his water bottle, and his eyes would look crazy. Every morning, AS SOON as he heard me wake up, there he was standing on the side of the cage rattling it like a mad man waiting for his breakfast. Didn't matter if it was 6AM or 9AM, as soon as he heard a single noise, he was READY TO EAT. He was really odd, always asserting dominance with his brother, but is the most anxious piggy I have ever seen. I will miss how unique of a character he was, always surprising me with new quirks over the years.

I miss my goofy boy

So very sorry to read about the passing of your adorable little fighter.
RIP Handsome Comet.

I'm very sorry for your loss!
Sleep tight Comet 💔 🌈
Take care of yourself after all these months of caring for your sweet boy.

BIG HUGS

I am very sorry that Comet needed to make his journey to the Rainbow Bridge but that he could live a full life despite obviously having the specific respiratory bacteria that causes what is called by Los Angeles Guinea Pig Rescue incurable CBS syndrome (chronic walled-in middle ear infection especially in the USA and Canada) speaks of more clearly of the depth of your love and dedication. Despite this, you have given Comet the happiest of lives he could wish for.

Long term illness always creates a closer bond where you feel the sudden gap not just in your heart but also very much in your daily routine a lot stronger. Be proud and sad; but also be kind with yourself while you are finding all the little unthinking ties that have connected you and Comet over the coming weeks and months - usually unfortunately the hard way. This is the toughest bit of any close bond because Comet has been such an integral part of your life.

Give yourself the space and time to grieve, to process and to heal. It is a rather complex journey that doesn't depend on the species but on the strength of the bond.

He will always stay with you in your heart where you can always visit him once the raw pain of the loss has subsided somewhat.

Aw I am so sorry that beautiful Comet has crossed the rainbow bridge 😞 but helping him was the kindest decision you could have made and I hope you can take heart that you did everything you could for him and that he had a very happy life with you (((hugs)))

Sleep tight Comet x

So sorry for your loss.
He will always have a place in your heart
Be gentle with yourself as you grieve.
Holding you in my heart ♥️

I’m so sorry. Popcorn high over the bridge gorgeous Comet ❤️

I am sorry Comet had to leave you but he would have known how hard you tried to help him get well and felt the love you gave him. His pawprint will be there on your heart and be close to you in happier memories. Grieving is hard to bear so look after yourself in the coming days.
Rest peacefully Comet 🌈
