COVID-19 Coronavirus

The malls in the US are failing because the big brand anchor stores are going bust.Largely down to online shopping I'm guessing. The rot set in years ago but this situation could be the last straw for the ones that are left which are, in many cases,in terrible condition and barely holding on anyway
This pandemic will lead to so many changes I'm sure

Slowly all I'm seeing mainly on high streets is betting shops, charity shops ( thrift stores) coffee shops, takeaway food and hairdressers. All of which you can't do online, apart from takeaway food, but not everyone wants it delivered

Years ago it was predicted that the only growth would be in service and convenience. Betting shops are really a scourge on society - charity shops have reduced rates and can reclaim certain parts of rent back, it's a mixture of lower footfall due to more concentrated out of town retail parks - which can negotiate lower prices, greed on the part of landlords and online shopping. There's also the issue we rarely address, which is the money laundering issue, which is huge, which is why you'll sometimes spot an improbably large number of businesses, in non-viable locations with low footfall all selling the same thing, the profusion of all of the above tend to drive away consumers in the long run, which accelerates things. Organised crime is huge, our ability to really disrupt it is minimal.

Americans have Level 4 Travel Ban, which is the highest level so all Americans must return home.
If they can’t return home, they are ordered to shelter in place.

I'm hoping the more rural states in the Midwest help to slow it down long enough for everyone to get on top. I've heard a proportion of ventilators in the stockpile are non-functional, but I think that's understandable and couldn't really have been helped. I think, if anything does help the US it'll be industrial capacity, if all the ducks can be lined up, then within a month or so the supply shortages should be fixed. There does need to be far more social provision though. There are many issues in the US, but I really wish the press would stop trying to pick apart any action, which is a similar problem to the one we have here.

Mum saw something on teletext (she is obsessed with it!) New Look is not paying for some stock & there was something about administrators for Debenhams. It made me look at local shopping centre, has a range of shops but there are always empty ones that get filled & then close months later. Town centre is filled with bars/clubs, charity shops, betting shops, greggs & subway etc, the market has seen better days. Makes you wonder how any of it will survive & what the new normal will be. I suppose when people can they will be back out in bars, shopping etc especially if this is normal activities for them.

I had to run to local shop for bread & milk this morning. Definitely lots more people out on a Saturday, haven't yet done a supermarket trip. Nearest is half a mile walk away but I am thinking it is definitely too peopley for me!

Anyone received letter from PM yet? My brother has this morning so assuming they all in postal system..

I just had to pay £20 to pick up 6 tablets. Just 6. That included having to go to the other side of Rochdale, to an area I'd never been before, and having to ask a security bloke to see if he can either a) find my prescription or b) find someone to find my prescription because there's no doors open, no buzzers, no contact details to call once you get there...

It is not a good time to need antibiotics at the weekend, to be sure.

I love how nature is just claiming everything back for awhile; It will be short lived but I love how this is happening. I think there are monkeys somewhere in Asia, wild boar somewhere else and deer in various places too!

I like thinking how it would be and look if humans were gone, and animals left to claim earth back. Building would gradually collapse, roads would crack and plants would grow through, there'd be loads more trees, so on and so on

I saw bees in the garden this morning. Lovely to see how the liliums are shooting up too. I wish I would have picked a tray of plants up from Morrisons when I was last in three weeks ago. Would have added some colour to the garden & given me something to do.

Feel at the minute it's one step forward, two steps back. I've had a productive week but a lazy weekend. I printed some photos, to then run out of ink. I'm avoiding the news, mum is obsessed with it...

Yep, and I've noticed more wild life in the little woodland out the back of my house, much less danger for them. Even getting owls out back at night 👍
There are leopard and cheetahs roaming in my city who escaped from local hills

Anyone watching the queen lay the smack down on Britain in half hour? 8pm. I'm quite looking forward to it

OH was listening to that queen at full blast in his shed yesterday, my neighbour was singing along as he was gardening. I shouted over to him to say if it was too loud, he said no turn it up. :))

Heard today that my brother, sister-in-law and nephew have all developed Covid-19 symptoms.
Must admit to feeling concerned although I feel sure they will be ok.

Nature would take over so quickly! I just love it that nature is having a break from humans for awhile but I hate that it has to be because of this awful virus.
