Hi everyone, I am posting to see if anybody has had a similar situation or have any idea what this could be. My guinea Benny has been dealing with some crusty eye issues. We brought him to the vet a few weeks ago for it and after examination and a dye drop test he was diagnosed with conjunctivitas. We recieved drops and it seemed to cure almost instantly, not a bit of crustyness after the visit. I gave the drops for the correct amount of time and at the check up the next week we were told everything looked great, and it did. For the following week it was weining off of the drops as instructed. Everything was fine for about a week or so up until today, the crustiness came back in both eyes. I gave more drops and am monitoring and will be making another appointment soon, but does anybody on here have any idea what could be potentially wrong? Maybe the doseage needed to be longer or something else is wrong? Thanks for all replies!

Hi!

Please see your vet again! Are your boys located in a place where there is a draft or lots of dust? It may well be that the duration of the treatment was too short.

Are the crusts translucent; yellowish-greenish or a thick milky-white?
The first is from the watery fluid that guinea pigs produce when there is an irritation in the eyes. The second points towards an infection/inflammation of either the conjunctiva or the airways, and the third is from the normal milky eye cleaning fluid; if there is an excess regularly around teh eyes, then the tear duct could be blocked.
