Debating expansion

My husband keeps going on about how I should get Toffee a girlfriend so he stops bothering his mate Fudge. And it has got me thinking, not always good 😁 What I was/am debating is getting a girl each for the boys, after having them neutered. But they have a good bond so I worry about breaking that up. The other alternative would be to get a pair of girls and just house them separately. My dilemma in that case would be, could I get away with housing the girls above the boys? I know their smell could cause a fight between the boys. But to be honest I don’t think Fudge would fight, he’s very placid.

Another question for those with 4+ piggies. How much do you put away in your vet fund? I cancelled my insurance renewal as I would be paying more for less. And in the year I did pay I never claimed or was charged enough to make claiming worth my while. So now I’ll just put money away every month.

My feeling with this situation, as you’ve described, is don’t mess with it! if it was me, I wouldn’t want to break the bond your boys currently have and would rather get a separate pair.
Fudge may be placid now but if there were girls around, he may change. I am not sure whether keeping girls so close would be wise.
 
Do you know I thought I'd add up my vet bills from April. I have 7 pig's 2 with ongoing health issues at the moment and since April we have spent just short of £1000. In the past I have always had insurance some pig's it's paid off others not of course these 2 aren't insured. It really is a gamble, there is definitely no right or wrong answer when it comes to insurance.

Personally I would not break your boys bonds, I wouldn't want to upset the bond by bringing girls in either if I'm honest. I have always had boys paired with girls so never had any issues with smells and fear of bonds breaking but I know how fragile boys bonds can be.

Ps - In my opinion Boys definitely have the bigger personalities.
 
piggie fund gets £200 a month, with top ups from my art and crafts items , like painting, feltings and quilts. last months vet bill was, £466. need to start on the christmas Wheek wheek gift socks for piggies ,all the moneys go to piggies fund.
 
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. They’re in line with what I was thinking anyway 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ll stick to the two and enjoy them.
@flintstones why do you think boys have bigger personalities? I do have to say the few times we had the school guinea pigs (girlies) there wasn’t much going on with them. Our boys are very entertaining 😍
 
Over the years I have had quite a few girls (10 in total) and boys (6 boys), but all my boys have had huge personalities, the girl's I find are more independent and perhaps less human orientated definitely less silly. Some can be mean, my girls are definitely mean at times but it's more dominance behaviour than actually wanting to hurt each other, the boys tend to be more placid. For example I had one boy Fred who squeaked in time with his feet super cute and hilarious girls are to smart for that or certainly mine where or perhaps Fred was just a bit dim 🤣. I'm on the move Mr Predator he wasn't the smartest pig but very entertaining and thankfully predators where not an issue given he was a domestic pet!

I fear I'm almost being sexist and that's definitely not my intention just in general I find boys have the bigger personalities and are more entertaining. Of course they have there own challenges with cage mates at times. Where as girls are less challenging to be paired but that isn't always the case. Obviously I wouldn't be without the girls or the boys, as I like the interaction between them and they are all entertaining in there own way!
