IMG_0941.webp Well it appears a miracle has happened in my piggy room. Buddy is now letting me pet him!

He first let me scratch under his chin and now let's me pet the top of his head! This happens most days, it's a miracle as he was my biggest drama queen and was very skittish. He's just turned 2 years old and I've had him about 20 months.

He is gorgeous. I am so pleased he is letting you pet him. My two are 2 and I don't think they are mellowing yet. I seem to remember my past guineas mellowing around the age of 3 so I'm living in hope.

Good job Buddy! :yahoo: I too have heard of piggies mellowing as they age, but as mine are only just over one I don't have any practical experience of that (aside from much less popcorning and zoomies).

Funny you posted this actually, my boy Tubs used to hate sitting on my lap and wheeked/pulled at my clothes to let me know it was home time. Today he sat on my lap for 10 minutes and licked my fingers .

They are strange creatures aren't they. It's like one day a light bulb just went off and he was like. "Hmm maybe you're not so bad anymore. You can pet me"
Lol. He still teeth chatters at me on ocassion though. Mind u he learned to be grumpy from the best. #ripAlby.

Maybe they know Santa paws is due soon. Lol

How are your chaps doing now they've all been separated?

Since mine have went through their neutering and had to be syringe-fed, they're a lot easier to catch and chatter at me less when I'm trying to pick them up (though they still aren't out of the woods yet, so maybe it's just that they are feeling fragile ;)). Being patient has been so hard though, they've been skittish since I got them in February and are only just starting to settle down a little. Celebrate the small things!

Yes they seem to be doing ok. I know it's not ideal having them all separately but none of them seem to get on together. Peanut and Buddy live side by side, I placed their hay trays beside each other and they quite often chat away through the bars. I tried once again to put them together and buddy knocked Peanuts top front teeth out. So we went back to the way we were. And they seem happy enough.

Fudge is really slowing down now. We think he's about 5? As I've had him over 2 1/2 years and he was apparently 2 1/2 when I got him. He's still eating and popcorning and moving about. Just a bit more slowly.
Here's hoping yours calm down more too.

I have a 6 1/2 year old pig that loves my daughter and lets my daughter pick her up and sits on her lap - but whenever i went to stroke her she would run away and if i sat her on my lap she would moan until I put her back - then her sister died leaving her with my boar Bumble (R.I.P) and she let me pet her - then when Bumble passed she sat on my lap without complaining and now she comes running up to me for a head tickle and a stroke - so it only took the passing of both her cage mates and 4 1/2 years with me (she was 2 when I rescued her ) to decide that the food and nail clipping monster can be trusted.

Aww. Little soul. Well a similar thing happened to Buddy. When we lost Alby in August. He seems to have mellowed since then. lol

Mine did mellow a lot with age, both with people and with other pigs.
