Hi all,

My guinea pig, Wilbur, seems to be an excessive drinker. He has been for a while now, I’ve checked his urine and all seems fine, he’s active, eats lots, hasn’t changed weight. All in all he seems very happy and healthy. The room isn’t a high temp either. His brother doesn’t drink nearly as much as he does. They get fresh veg every day so I can’t think of what would cause this, any ideas? He just seems to love water!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi and welcome

Water intake can vary massively individually. More important than the amount (from not drinking at all to up to 300 ml in a day) is to have any sudden changes that cannot be explained by changes in the environment or bottle leaks/nozzle blockage vet checked.

You can find more information around drinking issues and what to look out for/ health issues connected with drinking in this guide here: All About Drinking And Bottles
