Dry Ears

My texel Guinea pig Ferb has dry skin on his ears. I am aware texel Guinea pigs are prone to skin problems however he is the first texel I have ever had. Should I be concerned at this stage or is this normal?

He is happy, eating and squeaking and doesn't flinch when I touch his ears/the dry skin

Time for s trip to the vet, looks fungal to me idk why Tex's are prone to getting fungal infections on and around their ears but that has been my experience. Looks like ringworm which is contagious to humans so wash your hands, handle that piggy last and if need you can clean the ear backs with cotton swab and hydrogen peroxide until you can get in.
 
Please have the ears checked in case of fungal. You can then discuss with your vet what cream would be best in case it is dry ears.
 
Ok thanks for the advice! I've just cleaned his hutch out and will make sure to wash my hands and I'll take him to the vet asap to get it checked out.

I only noticed it today so I hope it is just dry ears!
 
I took him to the vets earlier but the small animals specialist wasn't there. The general vet wasn't too concerned but I am taking him back early next week. Will update you! He's currently happily tucked up!
 
Did he take a fur sample for culture or check with a black light for fungal spores?
Dogs and cats can get fungal infections too-spreads like wild fire with kittens in shelters! Agh why was the vet not more concerned lol, I would certainly make sure you get a vet that checks into it, otherwise keep loving him and wash your hands! Good luck!
 
My Freddie had dry ears and I took him to the vets as I was really worried but the vets said it could be because he has hay mites at the min and scratching himself so they recommended putting Vaseline on his ears and its cleared up now, he's back in on Tuesday. i took him to the vets on Monday and its gone already but does leave the hair greasy if it gets onto the fur, you could try that until he's back at the vets for further examination
 
No, no fur sample he just said it could be mange or ring worm but because he doesn't seem distressed in any way he should be ok to wait a few days for the other vet (I think she's on holiday!) Maybe I'll mention that to the other vet next week. Hopefully she'll be more knowledgeable about little piggies!

Ok! He doesn't seem to be scratching but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it! I hope it's just dryness and nothing more sinister!
 
Update! Went back to the vets today, Ferb's ears are still a little dry but not as bad as they were. She took a skin swab and found no mites and wasn't too concerned and told me to keep an eye out for any scaly or red skin or hair loss because of his long haired nature!
