Emergency - two lumps found!

I've just been over to my folks and found two lumps by Pheobe's front paw. They are both able to move (the lumps), they are hard and smooth to touch. one's the size and shape of a grape, but slightly flatter, the other one is larger and not flat. The larger one is behind her front (to the right paw as you look at her front on) paw, the other lump is slightly to the outside of the same paw. I can't believe I've not seen these before and feel terrible for her. I am taking her to the vets hopefully on thursday or friday morning before work. But i need some advice, they're not jelly bean shaped or broad bean shaped. There are no cuts or grazes, or fur missing. I really hope she's ok, I can't believe this is happening to one of my babies.
 
I'm not quite sure but someone here will. Could she have been biting her nails and perhaps accidentally caught herself and caused some swelling? My other thought was bumblefoot but I've not seen this personally.

Try not to worry. I'm sure it's something that can be fixed. Hugs from me and my boys :-)
 
Calm down Claire, hun! I know you are worried but remember, there are far worse things to come across with your piggies. Finding lumps can be worrying though, I know. Lumps do not tend to be serious; sometimes tricky, but rarely risky. I couldn't speculate much about what the lumps may be as I've not really come across large lumps on the legs and feet before. My Dexter has a lump on top of his hind foot, but it is quite small, soft and moveable; I am quite certain it is simply a cyst.

Fingers crossed the lumps on Pheobe's little paw are just cysts - do keep us updated. x

I said paws, I shouldn't of said that, it's like her armpit? Laura, thank you so much for answering. I wanted to contact you when I found them as I know you really know your stuff. I couldn't get a photo unfortunately.
 
Yes agree with all the above :-) A little visit to the vet won't hurt. They do get lumps and bumps from time to time, not necessarily anything serious.:)

in a flap i said by her paw, i meant by the armpit/on the trunk by top of her arm
 
Still could be just a fatty lump/cyst, not necessarily bad. Hopefully the vet will be able to put your mind at rest. :)
 
I know what you mean now Claire! One of my girls has lumps under her "armpits"; I was worried sick when I found them on Jasmine a year or so ago, but Vedra diagnosed them as fatty lumps - which makes sense since she's always been a bit podgy! A couple of my others have similar lumps.

AP will be able to give you more specific details, but from what I remember some lumps under the arms can be attached to the lymph nodes, although fatty lumps (lipomas / fibromas) are most common in this area.

No particular answer for you there Claire, I do think a good vet would be able to help you the most now as Pheobe needs someone to examine her lumps to figure out what is most likely. Good luck - will PM you in a tick. x

thank you. she's actually not a chubby piggy and has lost weight lately, not massively, but she just seems lighter
 
Has she got lumps anywhere else, especially in her back leg "armpits"?
 
Yes, either day should be fine, the lumps will not have got that big overnight.
 
Try not to worry too much - easier said than done I know! Have a look at my recent thread in here as Gizzi just had a lump around his grease gland and the vet confirmed to me today that its likely a cyst.

It's horrible waiting for the vets but most people who I have spoken to have said not to worry, the chances of it being something nasty is low and normally these things are treatable.

As long as she is eating and seems herself (as Gizzi is) try not to worry too much. I haven't slept well the last couple of nights worrying and went back to bed after the vets this morning! Don't let yourself get run down whatever you do.
 
ok, well the lumps disappeared, but today I found a massive lump under her armpit. So I rushed Pheobe to the vets and he *thinks* and i hope it's an abscess and she it on 2ml of baytril twice a day, but he said it's still a possibility that it's a tumor. I'm taking her back on tuesday afternoon to have it checked and hope it has shrunk. She had an injection today and she absolutely screamed, I could see her little mouth wailing, I was in floods of tears. Also her fur seems to be coming out in clumps, the vet seems to think that the two are possibly linked. My poor Pheobebell. Please send healing wheeks and best wishes to her.

i will ask him to i think, just to be on the safe side. laura thinks it may be hormonal because of the hair. i guessed it was the way she always was with the hair and i wasn't concerned until a mass of it came out on the vet's table and i casually mentioned it. Pheeb's is only 18months old, but i don't remember her malting this much last year at all. i absolutely sobbed at the vets when she screamed and worried is not the word. Pheebs is in my avatar with me currently, she's a fiesty miss and I love her so much, well, i love all my piggies, i couldn't stand losing any of them. Pheobe was our first choice piggie, we fell for her instantly, and also fell for Ruby on sight, but she was sleeping under the hay whilst Pheobe was running around and popcorning madly. Not a lot has changed! But Pheobe has been quieter as late.

Awwwwwwwwwww sending get well wishes to Phoebe. I really hope the vet gets to the bottom of it :) If you can maybe see if you have a rodentologist nearby to you to get another opinion. I have found rodentologists a godsend - knowing that they have such specialist knowledge xxxxxxxxxxxx
 
Please confirm the dose of Baytril.
It is unlikely to be a tumour.
Which "armpit" is the lump under?
I would question the hormonal diagnosis, she may just have a superficial skin problem, possibly fungal.

it's 2ml of baytril in the morning, 2ml at night.

it's one of her front armpits.

the vet said he thinks it's an abscess, and he said the hair loss backs that up.

what do you think? i really value your opinion.
 
Claire, I'm so sorry, I've only just caught up with this thread. I do hope Phoebe is feeling better this morning, I know just how worrying it is for you. I'm sending healing vibes to her, and hugs to you.

i'm about to head over to give Pheobe her first dose of meds, wish me luck! i wont be online much for a few days now as i'm going to stay at my folks' house as that is where my piggies currently are (long story!), so i dont know if i'll get online before tuesdayish xxxxxx

Thank you! She'll be getting so much fuss, she wont know what's going on! She's not the biggest fan of cuddles, which was why it made me cry when she ran up to me and snuggled up to me after her injection. She's had them before but never really screamed or made a fuss last time, but this time you could see her fear and pain. :0:0:0:0:0
 
Pheobe's lump has grown so she's having an operation on friday to have the lump removed, then it's being sent off to be tested. please all keep your fingers crossed that she's going to be ok as i can't bare to lose my little BeeBee
 
Oh Claire, I have only just seen this thread as I haven't been around much lately. I shall be thinking of little Pheobe on Friday and so will Eleanor and Eliza. Sending (((hugs))) to you and healing vibes to Pheobe x
