Eriathwens piggies

I was only thinking the other day how long ut had been since one of the piggies were unwell 🫠

Gone in to do meds and lights out to find Pearl a bit puffed up. She's had her back end chewed as well whether the barber was her or someone else I dont know. But she's got a mucky bottom that smells like a UTI so off to the vets in the morning hopefully! Fingers crossed for no stones.

She's had some pain relief and is happily tucking into some apple and emeraid before I go to bed

Lovely Pearl I hope she will be ok and whatever it is is easily treated ❤️

Back from the vets, no stones, pain, blood or anything going on with her urine, her bottom was dry and bladder almost empty so no incontinence. Evidently she just spent yesterday evening wallowing and the pain relief I gave her, helped.

There's no masses or anything in her abdomen, she just doesn't know where her feet are. He was able to lay her completely on her side and she didn't right herself.

So, as she's already a neuro piggy and lives in the herd that has had the majority of the EC piggies, we've got her on panacur for at least 28 days but I'll keep her on it until improvement stops, essentially.

She's had a nice bath to clean her bottom up, flamazine on her feet and she's tucked up in some hay eating some mixed salad and red bell pepper. Although she looks like she's about to have a nice nap..and I will probably join her as I've only had about 4 hours sleep 😂

Fingers crossed there's improvement.

Oh she’s so adorable. Hope the meds help. And hope you get better sleep tonight.

Thankyou! Fingers crossed. Ive got to be up earlyish to take Mum to the hospital for a liver biopsy and hour away 🫠 they certainly pick their moments!

Luckily the other piggies are, mostly, being very gentle with her. Amber's been told off by both Fern and Iris for being a bit too enthusiastic washing her ears, but the fact she's actually wanting to move around now is really encouraging, hopefully in a couple of days she will have much more coordination.

So very sorry to read this sad news. Sleep tight beautiful girl. 🌈 ❤️

Thankyou all. Pearl will be making her way to the crematorium tomorrow. I'm very glad that the piggies appear unbothered, they tried their best to get her up and going whilebshe was ill, thry had clearly come to terms with the situation overnight.

Yesterday was pretty awful though, the doctor doing Mum's biopsy was incredibly rude, as were most of the nurses, they were rushing because the person before her was late so didn't wait for the local aneasthetic to work, she felt all of it and they told her that the pain she was experiencing was noting to to with them. He later brought 2 other people to see her, to check her over to cover himself and told her it was probably arthritis and she should see her GP. She was left in a cupboard where people came back and forth to take things out of drawers so she got no rest or privacy. And then was told she could go home at 8pm. When I went to pick her up it took me asking 5 nurses to find her because they had no idea where they had put her. She wasn't dressed or ready to go at all, I had to get her out of bed and dressed myself.

Luckily today she's doing well apart from a bit traumatised, a few paracetamol and a good night sleep in a freshly changed bed did her the world of good, she's happy to be home. They told her that they'd only taken one biopsy and if it came back clear she would have to have more.. which she is refusing to do now, quite understandably!

Unbelievably bad health care. I am so sorry this happened. What a nightmare 😔

Disgraceful treatment of your Mum - I’m so disappointed and cross on your behalf
Thank goodness you’re there for her 🥰

I'm sorry that Pearl has passed.hugs
I'm sorry your Mum has bad practise, and not the correct care. Its really unexcuseable,to put her near cupboards without dignity.

So sorry that you lost Pearl and your mum had such a bad experience with her biopsy.
Hope your mum is ok and that you are taking care of yourself as well.
Hugs 🤗

I'm not sure why I'm sharing it here, other than over the years you've been one of the most consistent communities I've been part of, and frankly at the moment I'm feelijg a little bit lost. But earlier today I sat at my bonus Dad's bedside in hospital while he passed from pancreatic cancer. He had been trying to get answers for some pain for over a year, but wasn't diagnosed with the cancer until November, by that time it had spread to his liver and was incredibly jaundiced. At the weekend we learned it had spread again to his stomach and lungs.

Oddly enough, the process was not very dissimilar to the passing of the guinea pigs, which helped me know what was happening and was a comfort. It was quick, and peaceful, as he deserved, but he hasn't half left behind a massive void in all our lives and we will miss him immensely.
