hi!
so i got my pigs not long ago and they are both female (well supposedly, i’m hoping they are) and one has been rumbling/purring to the other. i understand that it can be a dominance behaviour for females and the one who does it is definitely the bigger pig and more brave but i want to rule out to possibility of them being sexed wrong at birth by figuring it out myself. i know how to sex them but since they are quite young they are a little too skittish and hyper for it to be done properly.

is there any way i can try and figure it out without any uncomfortable holding for them?

thank you!

i attached a picture of the one who rumbles incase that helps anything. thanks again :)

I’m afraid you have to hold them to be able to check their gender. You can always post photos of their bits if you want help sexing them. Rumble strutting is just dominance. As long as there’s no blood drawn you just have to leave them to work out the hieraechy.

okay thank you (:
i’ll definitely try sexing them when they’re more comfortable but yeah i’ll put it down to dominance at the moment

i just sexed the one i was concerned about, seems very much like a sow which is a relief. i’ll sex the other one tomorrow as she’s sleeping.

i tried to get them from a rescue but the only one was hours away so we had to go to the most trusted shop we knew.
