Sorry my brain has just had an explosion and pieced everything together lol
I have read that soy is linked to stone issues. Can't remember where though
Definitely isn’t scaring anyone - it’s a very interesting topic of discussion and nobody has the answer so sharing experiences is valuable. I’m finding the topic of whether soya being in ss grain free and if it’s cause for concern interesting too.
I originally fed burgess but the alfalfa and grain content in them made me switch to ss grain free. Now seeing the discussion of ss grain free etc. I’m going to give haybox a go.
It’s interesting because on the thread @PigglePuggle referred to it was mentioned that burgess seems to have a better distribution of nutrients. My rabbits have been fed burgess forever so why doesnt that concern me like it does for the piggies?!
Are these the rosewood ones?OMG just out of interest I got a few of the Natures grain free pellets out of the cupboard and cut them in half ..... guess what Bobby and Geoff goggled them downGuess i know how to feed them the pellets !
thanks for the idea of cutting them in half !
Yes they are ! I’m amazed just cutting them in half and they loved themAre these the rosewood ones?
They are very easy to cut in half - I’m wondering if it’s the fact the pellets are longer and have a ridge pattern .This is a good thing for me to know, il try them whole and if they won't eat them il do the same![]()
Can I just snap them? They are very easy to cut in half
You could .....but I couldn’t so I just cut them up on a chopping boardCan I just snap them?
Where did you buy you're roswoods from? You could .....but I couldn’t so I just cut them up on a chopping board
I read through all this with interest, if somewhat bemused! But you have hit the nail on the head there! I've had many generations of guineas back when I was able to keep them in a much more normal way, who lived to a ripe old age, having rarely eaten hay in their lives! Even now, when, as you say, I am sadly forced to feed it, I try to keep the ration of dried to natural forage so that the dried is as low as possible. On the subject of pellets, I only have a small number of guineas now, but every single one of them has completely different likes when it comes to pellets! So I can't imagine I would ever be able to feed them all happily on the same sort - though since I'm afraid they get what they are given, there are always a few happy ones and a few with untouched bowls whatever they get!All very well said above.
There's another interesting
Wow! 4 x as much as spinach. I have never looked at it like that. That's crazy, atleast spinach has moisture, which is another thing, pellets being dry, then again though, so is hay, but that brings me to another thought. Hay is just fed because as pets, Guinea pigs can't graze on fresh grass 24/7. So this all leads back to a too dry diet. Which is why I like the idea of a wet leafy green diet, and lots of fresh grass when possible. This is what my vet has been telling me to do (Simon)
No problem. If my pigs like the rosewoods I'm going to have them on them permanently. Not many at all per day. Just enough to have some vit d in the diet. My pigs are indoor and do not get direct sunlight at all. Through a window doesn't count either (I researched it a lot) glad I've been of some help to someoneI’ve been following this thread with interest as I have a sow who has suffered with stones in the past and I wanted to reduce the amount of ‘rubbish’ in their feed, but they love their pellets! I do restrict them to a tablespoon per day (ss grain free) and they are hoovered up fairly quickly. So I ordered some of the Rosewood pellets and they arrived this morning. I gave them all half a pellet each to see if they liked them and they scoffed them down! So they won’t be a waste of money and possibly their full time pellets once the s grain free are gone! Thanks for sussing them out @SkyPipDotBernie!
Thanks. I've a feeling I do some people's heads in with my replies. But I'm the type of person that will dig deep to try find out a solution if it interests meI read through all this with interest, if somewhat bemused! But you have hit the nail on the head there! BTW I can break the Rosewood pellets in half very easily !Thanks. I've a feeling I do some people's heads in with my replies. But I'm the type of person that will dig deep to try find out a solution if it interests me
That's cool, will save some effort washing a chopping board up daily after just pelletsBTW I can break the Rosewood pellets in half very easily !
@Piggies&buns . Have your pellets arrived yet?
I liked the look of them when I checked them out, only reason I didn't order is because I wanted the rosewoods that I have seen I also buy in a shop, just can't remember which shop dam itNot yet, my subscription order is due to go through on Friday (although I might have to bring it forward anyway judging by the way my lot are going through hay at the moment!) but I should have them next week. I’m rather excited to see what the piggy verdict is!
