Size comparison between haybox and ss grain free. I wish I could send the difference in the smell between the two as well!

I'm looking forward to trying them though I am a bit worried about the size for my greedy boars, they both eat so fast they choke and honk and sneeze and Ollie gets the most dramatic hiccups! I think slowly does it one pellet at a time, or I might snap them in half...

I thought mine would, but they realised they were too big to gobble down like the other ones so did bite them instead. Theyre very easy to snap though.

Rosewood pellets weren’t the hit they seemed to be at the beginning, when they all scoffed them like they were going out of fashion! I have been giving them more as treats to to those who like them. I have a pair of sows who aren’t impressed, a boar pair and another sow pair who like them and a trio who are indifferent! You just can’t win! When I need to order more, I might try the Haybox ones, but I’m sure I’ll be in the same situation again - they are so fussy!

Haybox pellets arrived today, plus a bag of dried nettle forage... served half haybox/half SS pellets at dinner... sprinkled dried nettles in the hay room...
Not only did the haybox pellets get rejected, Clover picked up all the dried nettle pieces out of the hay and popped then in the food bowl with the uneaten haybox pellets!
Which is clever, but clearly a "no thanks" on the long term kidney and bladder health food plan!

Oh dear!
It’s terribly polite of her to put them neatly into a reject pile though! Most would just poop on them as an act of disgust!

Mr Popcorn Piggy still thinks haybox pellets are the best thing since coriander and has decided he will allow me to handfeed them to him! Id like to think it’s because he loves me but I know better....!

Would I have to pay loads just to order hay box pellets? I want to try feeding them and see how it goes.

I’ve just gone part way through the process of placing an order to find out the p&p cost - it is £2.95 p&p (£5.95 for the pellets themselves). Its 1.5kg but due to the pellet size I am giving mine about four/six pellets each per day at the moment so they’re going to last absolutely ages

So £8.90 if I'm correct. That isn't too bad if they are going to last ages m il be feeding 2 tablespoons every other day. I will probably order some. And donate the meadow menu to someone else. Shame, I had high hopes for these.. But you never know until you try

Yes Jess had the same approach to her dried nettles, it was more running away from them like a loon and giving me the evil eye than politely disposing of them like clever Clover though! :))

Aren‘t they little rascals ! Do you think guinea pigs, like us have varied tastes in that as they get older their taste changes ? Just interested - my two hardly eat any pellets but they did eat pellets when I first got them and would wheek for them. They did eat the natures own if I broke them in two but are not bothered now ! Now they only wheek for their veg 🥰

I think more Guinea pigs would eat the cold pressed pellets if they were on them since they were pups.
I think a lot of it is to do with individual tastes too, although in the case of those with a poor rearing, I have been able to introduce foods which they then eventually decided they liked.

I don't have any group in which they all eat the same things, some adore apples, some hate them, they all eat carrots except for one (the same one who doesn't like apples) one will eat only iceberg lettuce, another only ordinary lettuce. They all eat hazel, bar one - and if I forget who eats what I find myself fishing it out and recycling it to another group! It does help if they have been given a huge choice as babies - but they can still be very fussy!

To cheer you up, I tried those haybox pellets and none of them would touch them, but then , they wouldn't eat the hay either! The only thing they will always eat, at any age and wherever they originated from - is grass! Because I used to be lucky enough to be able to feed only grass, I didn't realise how fussy they could be until I had to start buying expensive supermarket salads for them!

It's surprising how long it can take to get piggies to accept a new food. It took me 10 months to get Spike and Peanut to eat pepper of any colour, then it was only green. Having 6 piggies I've not had much get wasted someone will always eat whatever it is.

@PigglePuggle @Piggies&buns were your pellets packed in with the hay or did they come separate. My hay has arrived, I've opened 2 boxes - no pellets. The 3rd box doesn't feel any heavier and as it's in the bedroom I don't want to open it and get hay everywhere if I don't need to. Will bring it down and search it in the garden then reseal it if yours was in with the hay.

Mine came in wrapped in a separate plastic bag to the hay boxes

Thank you. They have just arrived by DHL courier, the hay boxes came by DPD! They have the Pigglington seal of approval, one hand fed pellet each was not acceptable they all begged for more. They are smaller than the JR Farm ones so I didn't have to break them in half.

Mine arrived at the same time as the hay by DPD in the same delivery but they were wrapped in a DHL courier bag now I think about it. Strange.
Mine are now refusing the ss grain free in favour of the hay box pellets!

Just tried the meadow meadow pellets again, and Bernie my boar is actually sitting there munching them down. I'm bowl feeding so that I can tell if they are eating them or not, I just need dot to eat them. I've decided, I'm not giving in. View attachment 149003
Bernie doesn’t normally like pellets in general does he? If I’m remembering correctly 🤔

He will munch a couple here and there, but doesn't normally bother with them much. But I have pictures of him when he was in pets at home munching away at a bowl pellets

Just wondering @Piggies&buns, are your lads still enjoying the Haybox pellets? :hmm: Was going to order some JR Farm as mine are a bit bored of SS grainless but might give them a go for a little change!:)

Well isn’t it funny, last night the pigs all tried a couple of the HayBox pellets, loved them! Comes to breakfast, half are still sitting in the cage atm (and they only get a tiny amount anyway!) Blooming piggles! Hoping they’ll come round! 🤞
