Furbabies' Adventures

Pino's nasal swap showed streptococci again.
But at least we don't have to switch to the antibiotic that guinea pigs don't tolerate very well.

Next Friday, Vicky is seeing the specialist vet again to see if he can find out why she is loosing weight and if she really is in pain and why.
She was doing better with metacam and she gained a bit of weight but the behaviour difference isn't that great. It's more of a gut feeling that she could be in pain.

Anyway, Pino will come along and we will talk about his further treatment as well.

Kylie is also worrying me a bit because at the moment she is incredibly picky when eating. Her weight is also dropping. I'll do a weight chart for her this weekend as well and send it to the vet if it shows a significant development.

I'm a bit worried that the streptococci could be effecting the girls as well with different symptoms. .

Last Friday we had more snow that expected when driving to the other side of Vienna to the university hospital. The snowfall seems to have surprised the officials because the clearing of the snow was incredibly slow. So it really was a "fun drive".
On Tuesday we had rain with temperatures below zero (on top of the snow), so everything is covered in ice.

The temperature is supposed to stay around or below zero all week.
I hope it will be a less eventful drive next week.

Yes, I know, it's a pretty typical winter for Austria.
But sometimes I'm a big fan of the climate change and warmer winters around here. 🙈

Oh dear it’s a worrying time for you @Viennese Furbabies
It sounds possible that the strep infection could be affecting Pino,Vicky and Kylie
I hope your Vet can give you some answers
Sending love and healing vibes to the lovely piggies

The piggies had a hard morning. We spent it at the university animal hospital.

Vicky was examined again and showed pain or discomfort at the distinct positions on her spine. Then she had a CT scan but that didn't show any obvious reason for her painful spots.
We will put her on pain medication again to see if this will help.

Pino will have to take his current antibiotics for about two weeks longer.

Kylie was much admired but she has also got cystitis. The bacterial cultutre will show which antibiotic should work. At least, there shouldn't be a stone involved.

When we got home, Vicky luckily started to eat straight away.
I was having a last check on them before leaving for work when I witnessed this scene. XD

Kylie was in a fleece tunnel. In front of this fleece tunnel was a piece of cucumber that Vicky fancied. But Kylie was really close by.
So Vicky inched nearer and nearer and got the cucumber.
The whole time Kylie was torn between being a good girl and bighting Vicky away. I don't know if she didn't bite because she knows that I don't like her to nip other piggies or because she really didn't want to bite her.

When Vicky had the cucumber, she started to eat. Than she wanted to turn the piece around and ... bang, straight it went and hit Kylie in the middle of her face.
I don't think Vicky even noticed it but Kylie certainly wasn't happy. You should have seen her face "Did this really happen?
Vicky just kept on eating.

Slapped with your favourite food 😄. Kylie must be muttering, I shoulda just grabbed it 😏

Well, it's a bit hard to tell.

Pino seems okay. He is active though not running around as much as in his best times. He has still got one week of antibiotics ahead of him.

Vicky sometimes vocalizes in a way she usually doesn't. It's not happening often but I've heard it three times during feeding. I'm not sure if it's a sign of pain or discomfort or if she is complaining about something. But I'll keep an eye on her.
She is on pain meds and is eating okay.

Kylie is also on pain meds. She hardly wanted anything to eat on Tuesday. After I started her on the pain medication, she started to eat again.
Unfortunately we're still waiting for the results of the bacterial analysis. So we haven't started the treatment of the cystitis yet.
This evening we had a long cuddle which isn't the best sign. Kylie isn't a cuddly piggy when she is feeling good.

Oh I’m sorry to read about your lovely piggies

Hopefully the results will be back asap
I also hope another week of AB’s for Pino does help him
I’m hoping Vicky is just complaining 🥰
