Dental Ginea pig pain eating

Ok thank you , I have tramadol now too but tablet form . My last vet always have liquid and that’s one tablet a day . He wants to eat so badly but then you can see he is in agony

Try and get him to Simon as soon as you can. He will get him out of pain very quickly. I wouldn't be surprised if his top molars aren't rubbing into his cheeks. We see that so often, when vets only address the tongue trapping issue and clearly don't even look at the top teeth x

Okay thank you , I’m not going to risk the anesthetic Monday and my husband and I are both booking Tuesday off so we can drive him

No they said they had one Monday but I can’t get there because of work . Will phone them Monday first thing
If you have any problems getting an appointment on Tuesday let me know. I am going to pm you my number. I have a Tuesday appointment and if you can't get one, I am going to give you mine and re-book, but will need to know early, so I can get another one sorted.

Aw, feel for you, I know exactly how you feel, it’s an awful situation x

I've just messaged a friend who has used tramadol tablets and she said that 10mg is a massive dose. Have you given him a tablet today? x
Tramadol recommended veterinary dose is 0.1 to 0.5mg per 1lb (about 450g) body weight every 8-12 hours for dogs and cats. So about 3mg per day for an average size piggy would be a very maximum dose... no more than 1mg at once!

Actually I found a source recommending a 1mg to 1.8mg dose per 1lb weight in cases of terminal cancer in dogs... but this is terminal illness doses and still the dose should be split... 10mg is a LOT :(

Whenever we have to give tramadol to a sick piggy, we only give 0.1ml. We mix one tramadol capsule (we open a 50mg capsule) with 1ml of water. Then only give 0.1ml of it 2x a day. The mixture will be good for 2 days. Just make sure that you shake it properly and draw from the top. The powder doesn't dissolve properly.

These are tablets , I cut it in half as early some one was worried about the dose so the poor piggy has had 5 mg . He the vet just given me a dose to kill him ? I can’t belive it I’m in tears

Please don't blame yourself as you are just following vet instructions. I don't know what you should do at the moment (others more knowledgeable would be able to help you) but please stay calm and make sure to give plenty of fluids to your piggy. Just continue feeding her as you were doing. He might just be a bit spaced out with having more dosage than he needed and with the guinea pigs's fast metabolism, they would get it out of their system as it should.
