Dental Ginea pig pain eating

Please don't blame yourself as you are just following vet instructions. I don't know what you should do at the moment (others more knowledgeable would be able to help you) but please stay calm and make sure to give plenty of fluids to your piggy. Just continue feeding her as you were doing. He might just be a bit spaced out with having more dosage than he needed and with the guinea pigs's fast metabolism, they would get it out of their system as it should.
It just goes from bad to worse , this is how I lost his brother .

Yes just 2ml
He wouldn’t have got the full dose as a lot would’ve stuck to whatever you mixed it in and also to the syringe. I’m sure he’ll be fine. I prefer the liquid tramadol because you can be sure you’re giving the correct dose. Too much gets wasted with crushing pills, so I feel sure he wouldn’t have had anything like 5mg. It would’ve been much less xx

Thank you for being kind , I did challenge and said my old vet always gives him the liquid but they said they didn’t have any . Does the Northampton vet do emergency out of hours as happy to pay for him to be seen tomorrow

Unfortunately not!
Keep syringe feeding him little and often and that should keep him going until he can see Simon. How does he seem in himself? xx

Dont panic, there is very little research or proper advice on giving piggies Tramadol as like most medicines it is "off label" for piggies ie nobody ever researched it properly. Piggies have a fast metabolism and cope quite well with most veterinary drugs for dogs and cats. Probably your vet advised you based on their own "off label" experience which might be more than the rest of us know. But please keep an eye on his breathing, high doses of Tramadol can in some cases breathing difficulties. This is known in cats and humans but not common in dogs and not documented for other animals. Please dont stress unduly as your vet probably based the dosage on their own knowledge. Just keep an eye on him. If he's alert enough for a syringe feed, this will probably slow the rate at which he absorbs the drug x

Terrible , he was still lethargic from the injection . I fed him and he wanted to eat but he can’t and just grunting

Thank you , yes I’ll stay up with him tonight . To be honest this vet is new and hindsight my old vet only used to do 1mg . Why is it so hard to find a good vet for Guineas ?

Just wanted to send my support while you're going through a difficult time. You'll be in the best hands with Simon when you see him x

My heart is broken , that amazing fur ball as been saturated with my tears and gave me love through all my grief and sadness with all my miscarriages , he has been my comfort blanket through all my failed fertility treatments . He was my baby . He was a fighter and got through three bladder stone ops and countless other health issues and I knew one day I would have to say goodbye . My husband is fuming with the vet and is going to take it further and I guess that’s his way to grief but I’m taking consultation that I was there for him to the end stroking his face and telling him how much I loved him x run free with your brother beautiful boy Oscar you were loved very much . Thank you all for your kindness and support it has been amazing x

I’ve just been reading your thread and I’m so very sorry about your news. It sounds like you were trying to do your very best to seek support and treatment for him. Please do not blame yourself in anyway for this. It may not have been the Tramadol but you were following instructions from a vet and you even erred on the side of caution.
We never know how our little friends will react to medications. I was quite nervous about introducing Tramadol into Hamish’s regime but he has been on 0.35ml of liquid twice per day for a long while now and seems to tolerate it well.
I do think your husband has a point about lodging a complaint with the vet to query the dosage amount as it did sound very high.
But ultimately, you have been a very caring piggy owner who tried everything and loved him until the end. There nothing I can say to take your pain away but I am so sorry. I will be thinking of you. Run free over the bridge little man. 🌈 xx

Such sad news to wake up to this morning, but please take comfort in that you were there at the end for him! It sounds like he was an amazing little piggy and a real fighter, having come through so much. You will have some lovely memories to cherish! Hugs x

Oh, I am so so sorry you have lost him. Please don’t blame yourself, you did everything you could have done, we can all see just how much you loved him x Try and remember all the lovely times you all had together, he will have left for Rainbow Bridge knowing just how much you all cherished him x

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our pets are wonderful creatures and like you mine have seen me through health problems and miscarriage which makes it so hard to say goodbye. You did everything you could for him and he will have known in his last hours how much you tried and how much you truly loved him. Be kind to yourself and take your time to grieve

Thank you all again for your support and kind words . The house is feeling very empty as After Oscar lost his brother he wanted to be with us on the sofa all the time and broke out his c&c cage so we just opened it up and let him free roam around the house so he could sit with us whenever he wanted . Ironically the vet just text us to remind us of his appointment tomorrow so I’m now trying to focus on what to say to them about the tramadol. She seemed nice but I want to make sure that this NEVER happens again to another guinea pig . I can’t believe I’m a professional woman in my forties but at a loss as to what to say to tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️. ( not that you would have thought that with all my distressed typing and spelling errors last night / this morning ) . They made me sign a disclaimer for the tramadol as not a licensed drug but not the point it is the dosage I want to challenge
