Hello, my guinea Millie (5 years old) has had mange for a while now (about 2 months). She has lost quite a bit of fur now and I'm quite worried about her. Her son Harvey lives with her, but he has no signs of it.

She has been treated with Xeno 450 spot on (with ivermectin) from the vets (£75!) This was a 4 - week treatment and she has just finished it with no signs of improvement. Before that I tried I anti-lice shampoo from Gorgeous Guineas which didn't work either.

What do I do?
Any more suggestions of products that might help?
Thanks!

Have you got another vet to go to. This one seems brainless

Are you sure its mites ! Vets always say mites . It might just be a skin condition etc.its funny the other guinea pig ok ,because mites go though every think

I'm sure its mange mites as I've had guineas with it before..no visible signs of things crawling on her so i'm sure they are under her skin (literally). Its funny because Harvey has never caught it before when my others have got it. I think he just has a strong immune system :D

Is there a different vet you can see? even at the same practice. Does her hair look broken half way down the shaft? if so then yes that would indicate mange mites, but if it looks greasy or comes out easily when tugged gently that would make me more inclined to think fungal. There are many types but the only type that would come up in any tests would be ringworm. Would it be possible to post a photo?
