Guinea pig poop smells really bad

If the fleece bedding smells bad it could be caused by bacteria. Hot washes are good and in addition I use Anti bacterial wash. The bedding never smells after the wash but does need washing and anti bacterial treatment within 3 to 4 days. I would also like to say the doing this routine no one has ever commentated on a smell and I have not noticed a bad odour Also I have never had to wash a guinea pig because they have smelled badly.I hope you can get a solution to your problem.

@anyar.dris yeah when I first bought them I washed at 30 but was worried if it was going to kill all the germs or not so started doing 40 degrees with fairy non bio and some white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment
I used to have the 2nd flr of the hutch where the piggies sleep in changed every 2 days. It smells because it was always soaked after 2 days, hence changing it frequently. I changed back to using paper bedding in that area because of that. The rest of the fleece bedding though was fine and I change it once week. The smell is just the regular smell of pee and poo, but nothing that would cause concern.

When washing your fleeces.. try adding some white vinegar to the wash ( where u would usually add fabric stuff ) this could help with the smell... all my pigs fleece is washed at 60 degrees tho and never smells..

I kept fleece best when I had a hay loft lined with newspaper and fitch bedding with hay on top and a fabric cover. Then they'd do all their wees and poos in there and the fleece would last longer.

I have one and clean the cage out once a week and it always smells terrible
Is your piggy bedded in fleece or disposable bedding? If the latter you may need to change out the wet areas more regularly and also poo pick. If the former, you may need to change it more often. Or use extra in high traffic areas.

As a side note, and very important, please get your piggy a friend. They’re not meant to be alone. They need the constant company (even through bars) of their own kind. No amount of human interaction can replace that. Dating at a rescue is the best way to go ☺️
