Hi!

Sorry if these questions sound daft, my only excuse is that I'm new to this and still finding my feet! :-)

First question, I started using fleece bedding yesterday and I love it! All but the hay which just seems to stick to it and is impossible to hoover/sweep up. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and had found a solution?

Also my second question is how much should my pigs be pooping, because they are pooping a lot! I mean from yesterday morning the whole cage is literally covered with poops.. they're all normal looking poops! I just wondered if everyone else pigs poop lots too!

Thank you :-)!

Yup, hay is a pain to get off fleece. For my set-up I have large trays filled with Fitch (it doesn't have to be Fitch, it's simply the bedding of my choice) and I have all the messy things in these trays - the hay, the pellets, and their treats such as paper bags filled with Redigrass - i.e. anything that I would find awkward to brush off the fleece. It works really well :) You will still have poop on the fleece, but the added bonus of a tray with litter/disposable bedding is they tend to do a lot of their wees in it instead of the fleece, so the whole set-up stays fresher for longer too.
Hope that helps :)

They R poo machines.... i counted one days worth when i first got mine & there were about 70! As for the fleece & hay, my hay is in a cat litter tray so they jump in there to eat so the hay stays there mainly.. i love fleece and so do they..

I think my 3 did 100 between them in half a day once lol :D I use a tray & put their hay in that it contains most of it so the fleece keeps relatively clean.

Agree with others about using a litter tray for hay. I just put the hay on the fleece once and it was awful to clean off. They still do get some hay on the fleece as it spills out sometimes but it is so much better.
I brush my fleece everyday using one of these: I find it is really good at sweeping hay off the fleece.

Thank you everyone for all your help and advice!

They just seem to be pooping and weeing more and more and I wasnt sure if it was an indication of something wrong with them!

mine used to be on wood chips and i didn't really notice how much my lot poop until i switched them to fleece.
I sweep twice daily just to keep it clear for them. I put hay in a hay rack and an upside down pigloo. which keeps it all a bit tidier but haven't found a way to keep it completely hay free and I'm not too fussed. when its clean out day i lay flat on patio and give a good sweep, then go over it with an outdoor hoover before placing fleeces into a wash bag and washing and giving a good shake after which seems to do ok
